Position Overview
We are hiring experienced Flight Surgeons to support the U.S. Air Force’s Air Education and Training Command (AETC). These Aerospace Medicine Physicians will serve as part of a rotational pool filling critical operational gaps across AETC installations, providing high-impact clinical care and flight medicine expertise in a dynamic TDY-based role.
Primary Locations

Flight Surgeons may be assigned to any of the following AETC Medical Treatment Facilities (MTFs):

  • Altus AFB – Oklahoma
  • Columbus AFB – Mississippi
  • Goodfellow AFB – Texas
  • Holloman AFB – New Mexico
  • Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA) – Texas
  • Keesler AFB – Mississippi
  • Laughlin AFB – Texas
  • Luke AFB – Arizona
  • Maxwell AFB – Alabama
  • Sheppard AFB – Texas
  • Vance AFB – Oklahoma

Additional temporary duty assignments may be required at geographically separated units (GSUs) or other Major Command (MAJCOM) designated CONUS locations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive clinical care in Flight & Operational Medicine Clinics (FOMC)
  • Conduct FAA and flying class physicals, write aeromedical waivers and medical profiles
  • Respond to flightline and in-flight emergencies
  • Serve as medical consultant for PRAP, AUoF, and Base Operational Medicine Clinic CONOPs
  • Support public health and aerospace medical standards programs
  • Mentor junior providers and support AETC-level medical readiness activities
  • Travel as needed for mission support, inspections, and investigations

Qualifications

  • M.D. or D.O. degree from an accredited U.S. institution
  • Unrestricted medical license (any U.S. jurisdiction)
  • Board Certified (Aerospace Medicine residency preferred)
  • Minimum 5 years of aerospace medicine experience
  • Minimum 3 years of active-duty U.S. military flight surgeon experience (within past 20 years)
  • ACLS and BLS certifications
  • Strong familiarity with DAF medical regulations (DAFMAN 48-123, DAFI 48-101, etc.)
  • Experience with AIMWTS, ASIMS, MHS Genesis preferred

Schedule & Compensation

  • Standard hours: Mon–Fri, 0730–1630
  • Federal holidays off

  • Travel reimbursed per FAR 31.205-46 and Joint Travel Regulations
  • Compensation: $300,000 annually
