Description
We are seeking a highly motivated engineering/technical student for a cooperative educational (Co-op) position as a Flight Test Engineer Intern. The position will be out of our Niceville, FL office with assignment location(s) at Eglin Air Force Base, FL and Crestview, FL working with United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) and Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) combat aircraft and systems. Multiple Co-op rotations are anticipated that will consist of increasingly challenging technical projects. Duration of the position is for one summer (approximately two months, adjustable to the candidate’s summer schedule) but may be extended up to one year (if suitable). Responsibilities: Collaborate with experienced engineers on flight test activities related to a variety of aircraft (AC-130J, MC-130J, OA-1K), weapons, avionics, datalinks, software, and cybersecurity. Get the opportunity to assist in designing and executing flight test plans, analyzing data, and ensuring safety and compliance. Gain hands-on with in-flight testing experiences by executing your procedures, running your instrumentation, documenting your results, and ultimately contribute to the development of innovative solutions for protecting our airmen. · Collaborate on Test Planning and Execution: o Work closely with senior engineers to design comprehensive flight test plans. Understand the objectives, constraints, and safety considerations for each test. o Contribute to the selection of test points, maneuvers, and data collection methods. o Participate in pre-flight briefings, ensuring alignment with project goals. · Instrumentation and Data Acquisition: o Gain hands-on experience with flight test instrumentation systems. o Monitor real-time data during flight tests, identifying anomalies and deviations. · Flight Test Execution: o Strap in and experience flight tests firsthand! Observe and document aircraft behavior during various types of flight tests. o Collaborate with flight crews, pilots, and ground control teams. · Data Analysis and Reporting: o Dive into post-flight data analysis. Use tools like MATLAB, Python, or specialized software to process flight data. o Prepare detailed reports summarizing findings. · System Integration Testing: o Explore the intricate interplay of avionics, software, and datalinks. o Assess communication links, sensor fusion, and software interfaces. Understand how these components impact overall mission performance. · Cybersecurity Assessment: o In the age of digital connectivity, cybersecurity is critical. Learn about potential vulnerabilities in avionics systems and the methods used to protect them. · Weapon Systems Testing: o Assist in evaluating weapon systems. Understand their integration, deployment, and safety protocols. o Witness live missile launches, radar tracking, and target engagement. Appreciate the complexity of integrating lethal systems into an aircraft. · Documentation and Lessons Learned: o Maintain meticulous records of test procedures, results, and observations. o Reflect on lessons learned from each test campaign. Qualifications: · Engineering student must be working towards a Bachelors, Master’s, or PhD degree in an engineering, software, systems, or related technical field. · Works well in a team atmosphere and is an effective team player and has effective written and verbal communication skills. · Passion for problem-solving and a strong interest in flight testing. · Proficient with Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. · Ability to pass a Class III FAA flight physical, as well as physically demanding training such as water survival and parachute operations · GPA of at least 2.8 on a 4.0 scale. Clearance: Ability to obtain/maintain a US government security clearance. Please note: US Citizenship is needed for most positions.
