JOB DESCRIPTION:

We are seeking a skilled FLS Design Engineer to join our fire protection engineering team in Abu Dhabi. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of professional experience designing compliant, efficient, and cost-effective fire life safety systems for building and infrastructure projects, with a deep understanding of UAE Civil Defense requirements and international standards.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience designing FLS systems on building projects, preferably in the UAE/Gulf region.
• Proficiency in hydraulic calculation software (HASS, SprinkCAD, FlowMaster) and design platforms (AutoCAD, Revit MEP).
• Strong knowledge of fire protection standards (NFPA, FM, EN) and UAE Civil Defense codes.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and work under tight deadlines.
• Effective communication skills and experience liaising with clients and regulatory authorities.
• Professional certification (e.g., NFPA Certified Fire Protection Specialist, CFPS) is a plus.

Experience:

• System Design & Analysis:
• Develop hydraulic calculations and layouts for sprinkler, hydrant, foam, and special hazard suppression systems using industry-standard software (e.g., HASS, SprinkCAD, FlowMaster).
• Design fire alarm and detection systems, including smoke/heat detectors, call points, sounders, and interface with BMS.
• Perform fire risk assessments and model evacuation scenarios to inform system design.
• Technical Documentation & Drawings:
• Produce detailed design drawings, schematics, riser diagrams, and equipment schedules in AutoCAD and/or Revit MEP.
• Prepare technical specifications, submittal packages, datasheets, and tender documents.
• Ensure all documentation aligns with project BIM Execution Plans (BEP) where applicable.
• Standards & Compliance:
• Ensure designs comply with UAE Civil Defense regulations, NFPA standards (e.g., NFPA 13, 14, 20, 72), FM Global, and local authority requirements (ADDC, ADM).
• Liaise with authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ) to secure design approvals and address review comments.
• Coordination & Collaboration:
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams—including architects, structural, MEP, and BIM teams—to resolve clashes and integrate FLS systems seamlessly.
• Attend and contribute to design coordination meetings, providing technical input on fire safety issues.
• Work closely with procurement and fabrication teams to review shop drawings and ensure constructability.
• Project Management Support:
• Assist in scope definition, cost estimation, and scheduling for FLS works.
• Monitor project progress, track deliverables, and support site inspections to ensure compliance with design intent.
• Mentor junior engineers and draftsmen, providing technical guidance and quality reviews.
