Position Description
The GES Applied Fluid Dynamics team plays a key role in the automation, standardization and execution of the analysis processes inside Flowserve. The team serves across all platforms and all regions providing fluid analysis support for product design, customer orders, failure analysis etc. Main interactions are with the various engineering communities including Product Engineering, Order Engineering and Technology Development.
The candidate serves as a SME on the field of fluids simulation.
Position Requirements
The engineer provides analysis of fluid components and systems to the various requesters according to the requirements and delivery times requested. Where expected results are not obtained the engineer provides suggestions of changes to reach the objectives. The key objectives are accuracy and quality of the results as well as the on-time delivery of said results. The position reports to the Manager of Global Engineering Services, Applied Fluids Dynamics.

Accountabilities:

  • Completion of high-end projects, where mathematical model development is required.
  • Completion of large, high-profile R&D projects with high uncertainty.
  • Continuous automation and optimization of the simulation workflow, to help the less experienced peers to perform high-end simulations in a standardized way
  • Support to the Customer Service Order Fulfillment, Manufacturing and Supply Chain department on technical support.
  • Provide management with accurate and informative reports and evaluate the results of project assignments along with appropriate recommended course of action.
  • Conduct or participate in RCA (Root Cause Analysis) to define corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support and develop the key technologies of Flowserve Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), flow visualization, erosion modelling, thermodynamic modelling, computer-aided mechanical design, system simulations.
  • Share information, knowledge and experience with other business units within Flowserve.
  • Perform evaluation utilizing classical methods of thermal analysis, and hydraulic analysis.
  • Participate in design reviews.
  • Parametric design studies, “design of Experiment”, etc.
  • Calibration of CFD results with physical testing.
  • Serve as CFD subject matter expert on cross-functional engineering team.
  • Interpret and explain CFD results to relevant Flowserve requester and customers both internal and external.

Work experience and skills requirements:

  • Master’s degree or equal in mechanical engineering.
  • The function requires a minimum of 10 years CFD experience (ANSYS CFD is preferred) in engineering within a customer-oriented working environment, rotating equipment experience is preferred.
  • Broad knowledge of engineering, deep understanding of CFD and numerical simulation methods is essential.
  • Extended knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
  • Experience with Root Cause Analysis is preferred.
  • Ability to modify the mathematical models and develop special solution workflows
  • Completion of non-standard projects where model customization is required and/or literature review is necessary.
  • Experience in optimization is preferred.
  • Given the complexity of the work, we’re looking for engineers who are not only experienced and have problem-solving skills, but they should also be capable of thinking critically and adapting their design approach to fit parametric methodologies.
  • As part of Global Engineering Services organization, the candidate is expected to support all internal customers to maintain and develop their existing workflows.
  • Organizing discussions with internal and external customers and ability to coordinate between multiple sites, stakeholders.
  • Ability to customize the solver (journal scripting, user defined function programming)
  • Programming knowledge (C#/Python/VBA/SQL) is preferred.
  • Fluency in English is must.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
