WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

Our client is looking for a strategic and experienced Food Safety Director to lead our organization’s food safety and quality assurance programs. This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of food safety, regulatory compliance, quality control, and risk management across the production process. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership skills, deep knowledge of regulatory frameworks (CFIA, SQF, BRC), and a proactive approach to maintaining the highest food safety and quality standards in a fast-paced, produce-focused environment.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, lead, and continuously improve the company’s food safety, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance programs.
  • Ensure full compliance with federal, provincial, and customer-specific regulations including CFIA, SQF, BRC, HACCP, and GMP standards.
  • Stay abreast of evolving food safety legislation and proactively implement changes to meet or exceed new regulatory requirements.
  • Lead the planning and execution of external regulatory, customer, and certification audits.
  • Direct the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of HACCP, GMP, WHMIS, and food safety systems across all operational departments.
  • Provide expert oversight in handling product complaints, recalls, deviations, and non-conformances.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for regulatory bodies and external auditors.
  • Oversee the company’s recall program in collaboration with the Recall Coordinator.
  • Establish and maintain robust documentation protocols for all food safety and quality assurance records, including SOPs and related forms.
  • Lead the weekly evaluation and performance rating of over 50 suppliers to ensure consistent product quality and compliance with specifications.
  • Review, analyze, and approve customer specification and document requests to support business operations.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a cross-functional team of approximately 20 employees, including Quality Assurance personnel and Production Lead Hands.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and high performance across the team.
  • Deliver ongoing training and coaching on GMP, HACCP, WHMIS, health & safety, and other regulatory standards.
  • Ensure consistent adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Occupational Health & Safety Act standards.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional departments to integrate food safety principles into all aspects of production and supply chain operations.
  • Evaluate internal systems through regular audits and assessments, driving corrective actions as necessary.
