Job Title: Food Safety Technician
Job Summary: The Food Safety Technician is responsible for monitoring and ensuring compliance with food safety standards and regulations within the organization. This role involves conducting inspections, performing tests, managing food ingredient inventories, tracking production data, maintaining records, and assisting in the implementation of food safety protocols to ensure the safety and quality of food products.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Safety, Microbiology, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in food safety, quality assurance, or a related role is preferred.
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and standards (HACCP, FDA, USDA, etc.).
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with food safety management software.
    Work Environment: The Food Safety Technician typically works in a food processing or manufacturing facility. The role may involve time spent in production areas, laboratories, and office settings.

Responsibilities
  • Inspections and Monitoring:
  • Conduct regular inspections of food processing, storage, and handling areas to ensure compliance with food safety regulations and standards.
  • Monitor food preparation and storage practices to ensure adherence to hygiene and safety protocols.
  • Testing and Analysis:
  • Perform microbiological and chemical testing of food products and surfaces to detect contaminants and ensure safety.
  • Analyze test results and report findings to the Food Safety Administrator or relevant management.
  • Food Ingredient Management:
  • Manage the inventory of food ingredients, ensuring proper storage and labeling to maintain safety and quality.
  • Track the usage of ingredients in production and ensure compliance with specifications and standards.
  • Production Tracking and Data Entry:
  • Track production processes and record relevant data related to food safety, ingredient usage, and product quality.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, tests, and compliance activities, ensuring data is entered into the appropriate systems for analysis and reporting.
  • Training and Support:
  • Assist in training employees on food safety practices, proper hygiene, and safe food handling procedures.
  • Provide ongoing support and resources to staff to ensure understanding and compliance with food safety protocols.
  • Incident Management:
  • Investigate food safety incidents and complaints, documenting findings and assisting in implementing corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with the Food Safety Administrator to develop strategies for preventing future incidents.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
  • Stay updated on local, state, and federal food safety regulations and standards.
  • Assist in preparing for audits and inspections by regulatory agencies.
  • Continuous Improvement:
  • Identify areas for improvement in food safety processes and practices and recommend changes to enhance compliance and safety.
  • Participate in continuous training and professional development to stay current with food safety trends and best practices.
