Food Scientist with Culinary Background – Job Description

We are a growing food supply company. As we expand our product line and distribution, we’re looking to refine our recipes to extend shelf life without compromising flavor or texture.
Who We’re Looking For:
A passionate Food Scientist with a strong culinary background who understands the art of flavor as well as the science of stability. You’ll work directly with the founder to alter existing recipes so they can maintain better quality under various storage conditions, improve shelf stability, and retain taste and texture.
Key Responsibilities:
Analyze current product formulations and advise on improvements for:
Water activity
pH control and balance
Microbial stability
Recommend natural preservatives, ingredient substitutions, or processing methods to improve shelf life.
Conduct sensory and stability testing on revised recipes.
Advise on packaging materials or storage techniques to extend product viability.
Assist in documenting recipe adjustments and production SOPs.
Required Skills & Background:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Food Science, Culinary Science, or related field.
Strong understanding of water activity, pH, and their impact on food safety and quality.
Experience working with snack or refrigerated foods preferred.
Hands-on culinary experience (restaurant, test kitchen, or CPG) is a must.
Ability to reformulate recipes while preserving taste and texture.
Familiar with natural preservation methods and clean-label ingredient strategies.
Based in or willing to travel to Jacksonville, FL for hands-on work.
Bonus Skills:
Knowledge of functional foods or women’s health nutrition.
Experience in consumer packaged goods (CPG) development.
Familiarity with co-packing or scaling recipes for production.
