Position: Food Security Kitchen Coordinator
Status: Non-Exempt, Full-Time (40 hours/week, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM)
Supervisor: Meals and Outreach Manager

SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:

The Food Security Kitchen Coordinator supports FiftyForward Fresh/Meals on Wheels, Adult Day Services, and Food Security programs by leading meal prep and plating, maintaining food service data, coordinating volunteers, ensuring food safety and sanitation, assisting with deliveries and outreach, and supporting the Friends Program as needed.

  • Ability to work flexibly and cooperatively with staff, volunteers, members, customers, and providers.
  • Strong organizational, customer service, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Smoke-free environment.
  • Requires walking, standing, lifting (up to 50 lbs), pushing/pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing stairs for extended periods.
  • Must tolerate temperature variations and cleaning odors.
  • Must use hands for fine motor tasks (cutting, opening packages, setting equipment temperatures).

EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to operate and willingness to learn food preparation and cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to use computer, copier, fax, scanner, and basic phone system.
Responsibilities
  • Lead prep and plating lunchtime meals for Adult Day Services and Meals on Wheels provided by The Nashville Food Project.
  • Lead prep and plating of ADS breakfast and afternoon snacks.
  • Maintain quality control of perishable food, ensuring timely rotation and distribution.
  • Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen and storage areas per Metro Health Department standards, report maintenance needs.
  • Schedule, train, and supervise volunteers for food packaging and food security needs.
  • Foster a welcoming, collaborative environment for volunteers while ensuring meals are prepared and packaged correctly and on schedule.
  • Ensure consistency in food safety and sanitation practices.
  • Maintain a thriving inventory of frozen meals for outreach and Meals on Wheels, ensuring portion control.
  • Reserve and serve meals for volunteer and donor events.
  • Meet regularly with ADS staff and supervisor to plan and discuss food needs.
  • Prepare and pack grocery bags and frozen meals for customer delivery and document departures.
  • Prepare and post weekly menus according to program requirements.
  • Assist with Food Security outreach events, assembling and distributing food.
  • Complete daily checklist of tasks.
  • Follow agency safety and emergency procedures.
  • Assist with Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday meal provision including providing oversight and coordination on-site on Thanksgiving and/or Christmas Day.
