Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care is a 315-bed academic and teaching hospital that provides specialized mental health, addiction and geriatric care. Located on the shores of Georgian Bay, we serve some of the most complex and disadvantaged individuals in Ontario and are the sole provider of high-secure forensic mental health services in the province.
The Manager of Food Services is currently seeking part-time Food Service Associates. The purpose of the position is to prepare and portion food, assemble trays, and deliver meals; clean dishware and pots; clean & sanitize equipment to maintain a clean and hygienic environment; service work in all areas of the food service department.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Sanitize equipment, work area, floors, sinks, counters, carts, shelving, and knives according to departmental policies and procedures.
  • Prepare, gather and/or portion of meals, snacks, and bag lunches according to daily production sheets and portioning guidelines; label, refrigerate and date all foods according to departmental policies and procedures.
  • Garburate (waste disposal) leftovers, strip trays, operate dish machine and pot machine and de-liming dish machine; replenish chemicals and ensure that temperature guidelines are met and recorded; bagging garbage and recyclable items, moving to designated areas and compacting garbage as per procedure.
  • Delivery & retrieval of trays and meal carts involving use of Tuggers.
  • Ensuring that security procedures and policies are strictly adhered to. i.e. cutlery counts.
  • Handling and/or storing inventory and rotating stock.
  • Prepare, assemble, deliver, set up and replenish in all areas required.
  • Always perform all work in compliance with all hospital policies and procedures and legislation (Occupational Health &Safety Act, Fire Code, WHMIS, etc.) relevant to health and safety, security (including relational/therapeutic security) and potential risk hazards, and in particular, “duties of the worker” as defined in Section 28 of the OH&S Act.
  • Manager has the right to assign additional responsibilities, and the right to assign additional duties and schedule alternate work locations based on operational requirements.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Food Service Worker Certificate is required. Alternatively, an equivalent or higher level of related education (e.g., a chef or cook diploma) or a minimum of three years of recent, relevant experience in a healthcare environment will be accepted, with the requirement to obtain a Food Service Worker Certificate within one year of hire.
  • Food Handler Certificate Ontario Required with the requirement to renew every 5 years.
  • Proven analytical skills in deciding when to report issues or concerns to supervisor to ensure prompt corrective action.
  • Results oriented work ethic to work independently and undertake tasks needed to accomplish work objectives and deliver quality, consistent and timely results.
  • Demonstrated leadership, conflict resolution, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to adapt readily to change.
  • Models and promotes core ethical practice, Waypoint Values, and reflects an optimistic and positive attitude.
  • Preference for proficiency in French/English language skills.
