Your role at St John of God Midland Hospital The Food Services Advisor provides professional leadership and guidance to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, and patient-centred food services across the organisation. The role supports operational teams in maintaining food safety standards, nutritional compliance, and service excellence, while assisting with menu planning, quality improvement initiatives, and regulatory compliance. Working collaboratively with catering teams, dietitians and clinical staff, the Food Services Advisor promotes best practice in food service delivery to enhance patient satisfaction and overall service performance. The Position Distribute and collect patient menus; assist with questions or concerns. Communicate with patients about meals, diet changes, and ward diet options. Amend menus within dietary guidelines to meet patient needs. Coordinate meal tray distribution (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner) via PCA/PSA caregivers. Resolve meal issues during service and liaise with ward managers/coordinators. Collect patient feedback and liaise with Executive Chef/Menu Office to address concerns. Process menus in the Menu Management system and prepare for plating. Generate reports for production staff and manage new admissions/diet changes. Review completed special diet menus for compliance and prepare for plating. Perform other duties as directed by the Executive Chef or Manager/Supervisor. Contribute to a supportive, collaborative team environment. Communicate effectively with patients, caregivers, and stakeholders. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and risk management processes. Comply with St John of God Health Care policies and OHS guidelines. Take reasonable care of self and others, avoid hazards, and use PPE as required. Report incidents, hazards, or injuries and assist with documentation and risk assessments. Attend mandatory OHS training and promote a positive safety culture. Support organisational environmental goals and responsible stewardship in all duties. Position Requirements You will demonstrate strong experience in food handling or food service, with a solid understanding of hygiene regulations. You will have proven customer service skills, including flexibility, tact, and diplomacy, and are knowledgeable in safe housekeeping, manual handling techniques, and chemical use. To succeed, you will demonstrate strong organisational abilities to set priorities and meet multiple deadlines, alongside excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively engage with senior management, caregivers, external service providers, clients, and the public. Well-developed computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office applications, are essential for this role.
