Description
Design, develop, and release transfer case systems and components from concept to production, ensuring alignment with program attribute requirements and timing. Lead the conceptual layout and delivery of a new driveline system Manage program delivery of quality, cost, weight, function and timing from concept through to production Coordinate and manage outside engineering and design resources Interface with core technical specialists to ensure delivery of a quality system design Function as primary technical interface with manufacturing engineering to ensure the system fits with the process and meets commercial needs Technical management of all interface complexities with neighboring systems Support vehicle program/platform teams to address functional vehicle performance attributes Translate vehicle-level driveline and 4x4 system requirements into detailed transfer case targets, specifications, and engineering drawings. Utilize advanced CAD software (e.g., 3DX, CATIA, SolidWorks) to create and refine detailed designs for transfer case components. Plan, coordinate, and execute comprehensive validation and verification testing, including DVP&R activities, to ensure product robustness and performance. Collaborate extensively with cross-functional teams, including Driveline Systems, Vehicle Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, and external suppliers. Work closely with suppliers on design and release activities for transfer case components and systems. Identify, analyze, and resolve complex engineering issues related to transfer case design, manufacturing, and field performance. Manage supplier relationships, including technical reviews, component sourcing, and evaluation to ensure quality and cost-effectiveness. Lead problem solving activities with both internal customers and the supplier, including authoring 8Ds, DOE, Fishbone diagrams, etc. Ensure adherence to project timelines and budgets, communicating progress and potential risks to stakeholders. Prepare and maintain detailed technical documentation, including design specifications, test plans, test reports, and engineering release documents. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance transfer case capability & performance, reduce cost, and improve manufacturing efficiency. Stay abreast of industry trends, advancements in driveline technology, and regulatory requirements to foster innovation and ensure compliance. This position requires a person with significant depth of knowledge in driveline systems engineering. This includes transfer cases, ‘prop' shafts, planetary gear sets, clutch systems and differentials. We are pushing boundaries and need someone that understands the technical aspects of delivering vehicle driveline systems for the high performance, low volume market. This requires a team player that can lead others to solve tough issues, leverage core resources, and resolve technical issues with limited oversight. This person needs to be positioned to immediately pull in significant technical expertise to solve issues and keep the program on track. Technical oversight of this program will include a strong understanding of program management and project deliverables that align with Ford GPDS deliverables. Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent. Experience: A minimum of seven years of experience in the development of driveline systems, with a strong emphasis on high performance applications. Automotive Expertise: In-depth knowledge of automotive powertrain systems, current & future. Experience with electrification and smart mobility technologies as they relate to driveline systems. Proficiency in CAD software for mechanical design (3DX & Teamcenter). Familiarity with DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and PFMEA (Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) processes. Knowledge of automotive industry standards and regulations (e.g., ISO, SAE). Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced, global environment. Project Management Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects from conception to completion, meeting tight deadlines and budgetary constraints.
