Reports directly to the Superintendent, the Foreman is the team leader and therefore, has a direct impact on the company’s overall success of field activities. The Foreman will assist the Superintendent in managing field operations through planning, coordinating, and with limited supervision, execute key functions while also performing actual tasks.

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Extensive knowledge of road building practices and procedures
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, specifications, schedules, and cost reports
  • Thorough understanding of construction safety practices
  • Knowledge of proper equipment utilization, operation, and maintenance
  • 3+ experience minimum in a Foreman position
  • Knowledge of Topcon GPS equipment would be considered an asset
  • Understanding of contracts, asset utilization, and costing.
  • Construction Safety Training System (CSTS2020) Certification.
  • Ground Disturbance.
  • Valid First Aid.
  • Self-motivating and able to complete tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Understand and follow verbal and written directions.
  • Strong work ethic with demonstrated dedication and reliability.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
  • Must be able to work as a member of a team.

Responsibilities
  • 3+ years of experience in Earthworks for the purpose of prepping for asphalt paving and concrete.
  • Knowledge of the use of Topcon GPS equipment including setup, operations, and troubleshooting.
  • Train, mentor and develop direct reports to build a strong team.
  • Build and maintain client relations.
  • Perform on-site coordination of manpower, materials, and equipment to complete the project.
  • Ensure that all materials are ordered with purchase orders or requisitions for materials/supplies from suppliers, parts room, yard, and warehouse.
  • Coordinate with Project Manager for document inspections on completed work, including prime/owner/consultants’ sign-off.
  • Create and submit electronic timesheets in a timely fashion.
  • Behaves in a manner that ensures the safety of themselves, their co-workers, and others on the work sites.
  • Conduct regular safety meetings. Reports incidents, injuries, and near misses and participates in the investigative process.
  • Assists other employees when required.
  • Adheres to company policies, procedures, and directions regarding standards of workplace behaviour in completing job duties and assignments.
  • Complies with the standards and procedures of North Star’s health and safety manual and Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
