Responsibilities

THE ROLE:

The Industrial Foreperson is responsible for overseeing the execution of industrial contracting projects. This includes managing site crews, equipment, and scopes of work under various contract formats (fixed price, cost-plus, unit price, CM, or design-build). The objective is to manage productivity, safety, costs, and client satisfaction while ensuring that all work aligns with plans, specifications, and best practices. This role reports to the Superintendent.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Department Participation

  • Attend weekly meetings with Project Superintendent and other stakeholders to review progress and resolve
  • challenges.
  • Stay current on construction trends, safety protocols, equipment use, and subcontractor scopes.
  • Develop strong capabilities in drawings/specs interpretation, scheduling, safety, equipment utilization, and crew motivation.

Field Supervision

  • Receive project documentation, conduct constructability analysis, and confirm scope understanding.
  • Assign and lead crews including Lead Hands, Journeymen, Operators, Apprentices, and Labourers.
  • Plan equipment, tools, rentals, and manpower for effective site mobilization.
  • Coordinate and manage third-party contractors, ensuring proper documentation and work alignment.
  • Maintain and update daily logs, job cost codes, site photos, and manpower reports.
  • Track equipment and material usage, and verify delivery timelines with the Project Coordinator.

Project Execution & Coordination

  • Lead daily toolbox meetings and communicate site expectations and safety requirements.
  • Complete JSAs and ensure compliance with all Acres and client safety policies.
  • Address site conflicts, changes in conditions, or specification gaps through RFIs and field reports.
  • Ensure the site is maintained with excellent housekeeping and secured daily.
  • Perform and document quality inspections; resolve deficiencies and escalate rework issues.
  • Review and sign off on third-party POs, tickets, and service records for tracking and billing.
  • Conduct daily assessments of crew performance, site safety, and work quality.

Safety & Quality Assurance

  • Work with Safety Advisors to build and enforce safety procedures and emergency protocols.
  • Conduct site inspections and participate in incident investigations or safety audits.
  • Monitor and guide the use of radio communication to ensure professionalism and respect.
  • Ensure all testing requirements (e.g., compaction, concrete) meet client expectations and standards.

Financial

  • Monitor labour and material costs daily, comparing against budgets to track performance.
  • Review cost reports with the Project Superintendent and propose corrective actions as needed.
  • Approve daily time sheets and job cost sheets in alignment with foreperson responsibilities.

Human Resources

  • Mentor and support direct reports; identify training needs and recommend development opportunities.
  • Conduct verbal and written performance reviews and support crew succession planning.
  • Recommend promotions, reassignments, or discipline where necessary.
  • Submit vacation plans early and ensure back-up coverage is arranged.
  • Foster team collaboration and maintain a positive, respectful work environment.
