Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting into the Contracts Manager, the successful Foreperson will be someone who has ideally worked in the Planing industry and has experience of working on Highways Planing projects.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

In this role, you as the successful Foreperson will be carrying out the following duties and responsibilities (not exhaustive)

  • Managing machines and vehicles; ensuring you are properly informed and equipped to carry out tasks
  • Recording any defects on the daily plant defect sheet and reporting them straight away
  • Operating of a Caterpillar two-metre planer or be willing to train on conversion to this planer
  • Ensuring all operatives and sub-contractors are trained and authorised to undertake their duties and are all wearing the required PPE
  • Managing and complying with all safety requirements, complying with company standards and procedures for employees and sub-contractors using the daily briefing process and Tool Box Talks
  • Completing site-specific documentation such as Site Record Sheets and Environmental Assessments
  • Attending site specific induction/briefing prior to starting work
  • Encouraging challenges of safety issues and reporting these challenges using the Safety Observation & Near Hit/Miss process
  • Ensuring environmental processes and best practice across the contract

What we are looking for

We are looking for someone who is:

  • In possession of a CSCS Qualification
  • Experienced in using a road planer – ideally a Caterpillar two-metre
  • NVQ level 2 in a role related discipline
  • MPQC/EPIC Competency Card
  • Understanding of surfacing methods to determine the correct approach to the planing task
  • Knowledge of planing machine capabilities and the ability to contribute to the operation
  • Developing People – help develop operatives to become multi skilled with the ability and confidence to step into different roles
