Arbutus Grove Nursery Ltd. (AGN) is a second generation family nursery located at 9721 West Saanich Rd in North Saanich BC. We grow over 14 million containerized tree seedlings annually for reforestation, as well as Christmas tree farms and native plant nurseries.
We are looking for people to join our team for the seasonal harvest periods below:
SUMMER LIFT September 9 - October 15. 7:30-4, (2x30 min breaks, 8 hrs paid)
WINTER LIFT November 5 – Completion (around Jan 15th) 7:30-5, (2x30 min breaks, 9 hrs paid).Part time shifts available.
CUTTINGS January 17 – Feb 18
THINNING March 18 – June 15 7:30-4:30, 8.5 hour days.
PAY: Summer and Winter Lift $17.85/hr – $20.24/hr based on historical hours worked at AGN

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Respect company safe work procedures, including wearing appropriate PPE (non-slip footwear), and willingness to participate safe work rotations.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 40 lbs.
  • A positive attitude generally and toward work; good interpersonal skills, respectful behavior, willingness to follow directions; positive work ethic; and a desire to produce quality products
  • Ability to follow proper crop handling procedures as directed
  • All training is provided

Responsibilities
  • Seedling harvest duties help prepare our crop for shipping and are performed indoors. This may include work on the lifting line such as grading, stacking and wrapping bundles, and boxing. Other tasks may include retrieving the crop from the greenhouses using a skidsteer and transporting boxes using a forklift as well as cleaning the work areas and growing containers for future use.
  • Opportunities for advancement to lead hand role for interested and qualified individuals.
  • Cuttings duties are to prepare cut pieces of tree branches for propagation and then sticking them into containers to grow. This job has a modified piece rate incentive to reward those whom are successful.
  • Thinning involves going over each container and removing doubles and transplanting extra germinants into empty seedling cavities.
