Location:
This position is required to work in person at 3330 Harvester Road and at various sites across the city. Work location is subject to change at the discretion of the City due to operational demands.
Position Overview:
This position is responsible for assisting Forestry technician staff in the day-to-day administration of programs relating to the maintenance of the city’s urban forest assets. Additional responsibilities include quality control assessments, inspection of tree assets, communication with project partners, and inventory of tree assets using GIS systems in the field. This position will work from April to August 2025.
Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for:

  • Inspecting and evaluating City assets, generating, and processing work records related to the evaluations using GIS optimized asset management software.
  • Supporting the administration of annual work programs related to planting, stumping, and pest management programs.
  • Supporting Forest Technicians in the co-ordination, scheduling, and monitoring of all outside contractors for departmental operations. Perform quality control inspections.
  • Reviewing, researching, and compiling correspondence and technical reports as directed.
  • Inspecting and verifying replacement trees planted as part of the private tree by-law located on private property.
  • Supporting Forest Protection Officers in the review of tree permit applications including review of tree protection hoarding on public and private property.
  • Supporting the intake of tree permit applications and file coordination
  • Responding to the public and other City departments on various issues as directed.
  • Other administrative duties as assigned.

Requirements:
You are enrolled in post-secondary education in Arboriculture, Urban Forestry, or a related field. You are also familiar with urban forest planning and health, including but not limited to tree planting, stumping operations, tree inventory, integrated pest management. You have working knowledge of GIS and GPS systems, and you are proficient with Microsoft Office products.
To be successful in this role, you possess strong project management, report writing, research, communication, and organizational skills. This role may be required to work outside of regular working hours to meet job demands.
A valid G2 driver’s licence is required with an acceptable driver’s abstract (no more than three (3) driving related convictions or an accumulation of no more than three (3) demerit points in the previous three (3) years prior to the date of hire).
