TERM FULL-TIME POSITION IN NORTH VANCOUVER CLOSES:  Open Until Filled BE PART OF SOMETHING MEANINGFUL!  Join the Ta na wa Yúus ta Stitúyntsam̓ Rights & Title Department as a Forestry Specialist, a key role supporting forestry‑related analysis, policy development, and engagement within Squamish Nation Traditional Territory. This position is central in assessing forestry referrals, supporting negotiations, and ensuring that the Nation’s environmental, cultural, legal, and territorial interests are upheld. This role is ideal for a collaborative, analytical, and detail‑oriented natural resources professional who brings strong forestry knowledge, experience with policy and referral processes, and a commitment to advancing the rights and title of the Squamish Nation. WHAT YOU’LL DO * Review forestry referrals for cut blocks, operational plans, and licensing/timber‑supply matters, assessing potential adverse impacts on Squamish Nation rights and title. * Liaise with external parties—including government, industry proponents, consultants, and First Nations—supporting correspondence, response development, and strategic engagement. * Develop strategies, prepare briefing notes, draft letters, and attend meetings with government and industry on behalf of the Nation. * Support the development of internal forestry policy and analyze external forestry regulations to inform the Nation’s positions on key issues. * Collaborate with the Referrals team and Natural Resources team on forestry projects and engagement opportunities. * Provide support to senior staff and negotiators preparing for meetings or consultation processes with external parties. * Contribute to a safe and healthy workplace, adhering to all health and safety procedures. * Work cooperatively within the Rights & Title team to support departmental goals. * Perform additional related duties as required. WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR * Bachelor’s degree in Resource/Land Management, Geography, Science, or a related field. * Registration with the Association of BC Forest Professionals (ABCFP) is preferred but not required. * Commitment to ongoing training related to systems, business writing, reporting, land registry, First Nations law, project/document management, and public administration. * 3 years of experience in the forestry industry or forestry governance. * Experience in referrals, research, analysis, case management, Aboriginal rights and title, or First Nations law is an asset. * Intermediate to advanced experience using MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint), desktop publishing, and internet applications. * Experience working with First Nations or in the legal field is an asset. * Professional, adaptable communication with strong interpersonal and influencing skills. * Ability to analyze and communicate complex information effectively to diverse stakeholders. * Diplomatic approach when delivering challenging information; strong ethics and confidentiality.
