Description Seasonal Forestry Technician About the Opportunity Copperhead Environmental Consulting is expanding our team and actively seeking a Seasonal Forestry Technician to join our existing team of professionals. We are seeking full and part time candidates looking to develop a long-term career in the environmental consulting industry and is open to diversification across the company. This job is considered seasonal, non-exempt, hourly and is based in our Paint Lick, Kentucky office. Responsibilities Technical Basic understanding of scientific principles. Assist with collection of data and performing basic data analysis. Assist Scientists with the maintenance and care of field data, specimens, and samples. Under the guidance of project leads, implement specific forest management actions to fulfill project objectives such as: Mechanical and chemical timber stand improvement (TSI) Herbicide applications Tree planting Forest Inventory Operate forestry equip. such as chainsaws, off road vehicles, and large capacity herbicide sprayers safely and effectively. Maintain field equipment and vehicles, including transporting, setting up, and breaking down equipment. Client Service Interact professionally both internally and externally. Working Conditions/Physical Effort The Forestry Technician position will require working in variable weather conditions on rough, rocky, uneven terrain at remote locations under physically demanding circumstances. Work locations will vary throughout the region including various locations including, but not limited to, Kentucky and Indiana and Illinois. This position may also require: Considerable physical exertion including the ability to lift and carry objects up to 40 pounds Long hours in isolated setting The ability to work varying and flexible work schedules, i.e., potentially through weekends. Availability to be gone for work weekly as needed, on average 4-5 days per week. Requirements Required Qualifications: 1+ years of experience and/or 0 years but working towards AS or BS degree. Associate or bachelor’s degree (or working towards degree) in forestry, wildlife management, or related environmental science is preferred. Experience working with or knowledge of natural systems. Knowledge of forest and wildlife management techniques preferred. Ability to identify trees and plants by species is required. Excellent attention to detail. Must be team oriented. Excellent communication skills; able to receive and follow directions. Ability to operate trucks, UTVs in an off-road environment. Must possess, or have the ability to obtain, a Kentucky Pesticide Applicators License. Ability to work in rugged terrain long distances from vehicles. Must hold a valid Real ID driver’s license.
