Caladwich is seeking a motivated, safety-focused Forklift Operator to support the handling, movement, and control of strategic materials at the DLA Strategic Materials Depot in Hammond, Indiana. Core responsibilities · Operate 6,000 lb gas-powered counterbalanced forklifts to safely move containerized, banded, palletized, and loose/bulk commodities throughout the depot yard and warehouse areas. · Load, unload, stage, stack, and relocate materials such as drums, bags, boxes, flasks, kegs, bundles, and palletized inventory while preventing product damage or contamination. · Maintain lot integrity and material segregation by ensuring commodities remain in their assigned discrete units with no comingling of truckloads, lots, or storage piles. · Assist with manual material handling when required, using tools such as pry bars, levers, banding tools, and drum handling equipment to reposition or secure materials. · Restack and re-band shifted or fallen loads during movement or storage to maintain safe, stable, and transport-ready inventory conditions. · Conduct daily equipment inspections and basic operator maintenance including fluid checks, safety checks, reporting deficiencies, and supporting scheduled preventative maintenance on government-furnished forklifts. · Follow all safety, PPE, and environmental procedures including use of steel-toe boots, eye/hand protection, spill response, hazard reporting, and compliance with depot safety rules. · Maintain clean and secure work areas by removing debris, disposing of damaged banding/materials, shutting down equipment, and securing government property at the end of each shift. · Coordinate daily operations with the Team Lead, COR, and on-site POC by following movement priorities, reporting damaged materials/equipment, and providing status updates on assigned work. Requirements Required Qualifications · High school diploma or GED preferred. · Valid state driver’s license · Minimum 2 years of forklift operating experience in a warehouse, industrial yard, manufacturing plant, logistics center, or government material handling environment. · Valid forklift certification (or ability to obtain certification upon hire) with demonstrated experience operating sit-down/counterbalance forklifts up to 6,000 lbs capacity. · Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical duties including standing, walking, climbing, bending, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions. · Working knowledge of warehouse safety practices including load securement, PPE requirements, hazard awareness, and daily equipment inspection procedures. Other Requirements: · Must be a US Citizen · Must be able to pass background investigations including a FBI fingerprint check and a National Agency Check with Inquires (NACI) adjudication.
