Description Forklift Operator – Non-Ferrous Yard Job Summary: The Forklift Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating forklifts in a fast-paced, outdoor scrap-yard environment. This role supports non-ferrous operations by assisting customers, loading and unloading materials, staging inventory, and responding quickly to radio requests from team members. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-focused, adaptable, and comfortable multitasking in changing conditions. Responsibilities: · Operate forklifts (primarily 8,000-lb capacity) safely on uneven outdoor terrain. · Load and unload 53-foot van trailers accurately and securely. · Assist customers by delivering boxes and helping unload non-ferrous materials. · Respond promptly to radio communications and requests from yard staff. · Support operations including sorting copper, stacking batteries, and staging materials. · Perform general yard duties including sweeping, cleaning, and housekeeping. · Maintain awareness of changing yard conditions and adjust priorities accordingly. · Follow all safety procedures, company policies, and supervisor instructions. · Provide polite, professional customer service at all times. Qualifications: · Ability to safely operate a forklift in an outdoor, uneven-ground environment. · Strong attention to detail and safety awareness. · Ability to multitask and work efficiently under pressure. · Dependable attendance and punctuality. · Willingness to perform a wide variety of tasks beyond forklift operation. Physical Requirements: · Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. · Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and climbing on and off equipment. · Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally. · Regular exposure to noise, dust, and heavy equipment.
