POSITION OVERVIEW

The Foundation & Corporate Grants Research Analyst will function as an integral member of the Corporate and Foundation Engagement team, working to identify and analyze potential foundation and corporate sponsors to support Ohio State’s research enterprise. This position involves conducting in-depth research to uncover funding opportunities, assessing alignment with organizational priorities, and providing actionable insights to inform engagement strategies. They will also be responsible for developing and delivering a training suite aimed at preparing faculty and staff to solicit grants from private foundations and corporations. Lastly, this position will be responsible for supporting the internal Limited Submission process for all private foundation opportunities, in close collaboration with the Office of Faculty Affairs and Office of Research.
This role is expected to have exceptional interpersonal skills and strong research, writing, editing and project management abilities. Must be highly self-motivated with an entrepreneurial spirit; detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects and meet deadlines; versed in use of MS office products; and able to work a flexible schedule. This is a perfect role for creative and strategic thinkers who would enjoy conducting in-depth research on potential private foundation and corporate prospects.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 2 years of relevant experience in prospect research, research management, business development, philanthropy, and/or higher education.

  • 2-4 years of experience in prospect research or applicable transferable skills.
  • Understanding of the principals of fundraising and/or research development, particularly in a higher education setting.
  • Experience working closely with high-level executives, deans and faculty.
  • Experience developing and delivering training to improve knowledge and skills of key constituents (faculty preferred).
  • Self-starter who can work independently and communicate and collaborate effectively in a team setting

Responsibilities

25% Prospect Identification and Research
The Prospect Development Senior Associate will work toward meeting the strategic priorities of the team by developing and implementing tactics in all areas related to prospect research to inform strategies and create a robust pipeline for the team.
Utilizes specialized research tools, such as Foundation Directory Online, Inside Philanthropy, FirstIgnite and LinkedIn; analyzes foundation and corporate giving patterns, philanthropic interests, and financial capacities; prepares detailed profiles and reports of prospects at the request of CFE colleagues and leadership; contributes to the development of tailored engagement strategies for high priority prospects; and manages special projects as assigned.
25% Funding Database Administration
Serves as the primary administrator of Scarlet & Grants, an online database of over 800 private funding opportunities that target various disciplines, career stages, and support levels, reflecting the priorities and focus areas of private foundations. Will be responsible for maintaining and updating its content to ensure accuracy and relevance, and will continue to build out the database to include new high impact foundation and corporate opportunities. Will monitor Scarlet & Grants’ use on a monthly basis, and perform quarterly analyses to showcase PIs looking for funding as well as opportunities garnering attention. Will present this analysis to the team on a quarterly basis.
30% Administration/Business Operations Support
Reviews proposal guidelines and requirements for private foundation limited submission opportunities, coordinates with the Office of Faculty Affairs to post internal calls for proposals via the Office of Research Funding Opportunities portal, and collaborates with Office of Faculty Affairs on selection of nominees.
20% Grants Training
Represent CFE in trainings and informational sessions across Ohio State’s campus community. Develop and deliver training aimed at preparing faculty and program staff to be competitive in seeking grants from private foundations and industry, working in concert with internal partners focused on faculty development from across the university. Will work in concert with CFE staff to prepare trainings such as introductory trainings focused on working with the team and soliciting support from private foundations/corporations; unit/department level requested trainings to include presentations in faculty/staff meetings; and funder/opportunity specific trainings. To ensure trainings are meaningful, will work with internal partners to compile evaluation results and integrate changes/adjust delivery as may be needed for future training sessions. The Foundation & Corporate Grants Research Analyst will be expected to develop, coordinate, and lead a minimum of four trainings during their first year.
