Description
The Department DCAD is at the forefront of innovative teaching and learning and brings together all academic development activities across the university. We combine lecturer, student and researcher development in a single unit. Our centre staff work across units to share and embed skills in enhancing learning and teaching, curriculum design and assessment, supporting international and non-traditional students. The Foundation Programme has been delivering high quality academic preparation for undergraduate study at Durham University since 1992. It is designed for students from under-represented groups in higher education, who have the potential to achieve the standard for admission to Durham, but who, as a result of educational disadvantage or disruption, do not have the level of attainment or access to qualifications required for entry to a Durham University course. A dedicated team of academic tutors delivers the Foundation Programme. Each year the Programme provides places for around 100 students and supports them to progress to Level 1 study in over 36 academic subjects from every academic department in the University. The Foundation Programme supports the University’s Access and Participation Plan. All Durham University Foundation Programme students are from under-represented groups in HE, including students from low areas of HE participation and low socio-economic status.
