FP&A Manager- R&D (m/d/f)
Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and results-driven FP&A Manager-R&D, with a strong sense of compliance, to join our Global FP&A team. The successful candidate will be responsible for financial planning, analysis and reporting of our global R&D organization, which spans 18 locations across 3 continents. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional analytical capabilities, a strong compliance mindset, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
As a key business partner to the R&D team, the FP&A Manager will play a critical role in driving financial transparency, optimizing resource allocation, and ensuring alignment with US GAAP compliance standards. This role reports directly to the Finance Director, R&D, and will contribute to strategic decision-making, operational excellence, and compliance efforts within the R&D organization.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or a related field. MBA or CPA preferred.
  • Extensive experience in financial planning and analysis, preferably within an R&D, technical, or audit environment, previous experience in controlling would be an asset.
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP compliance; familiarity with tax research credit regulations is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex financial data, identify trends, and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present financial insight to senior leadership.
  • Advanced knowledge of financial software and tools, including Excel, HFM, and Power BI. Experience in creating Power BI dashboards is a strong plus.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, global environment.
  • Ability to work in hybrid mode form our office in Hamburg
Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Lead monthly R&D allocation and Opex reporting for senior stakeholders.
  • Analyze expenses and ensure accurate accruals for research contracts.
  • Collaborate with global teams to resolve variances and ensure US GAAP compliance.
  • Support P&L reviews with financial insights for R&D leads.

Forecasting & Planning

  • Drive Operating Plan development (salaries, benefits, Capex).
  • Lead monthly forecasts and updates in HFM.
  • Represent R&D Finance in FP&A calls and prepare review presentations.

Data Reconciliation & Compliance

  • Reconcile headcount data and ensure accurate payroll allocations.
  • Track T&E and Capex spending with actionable reporting.
  • Review project funding and ensure policy compliance.

Cross-Functional Support & Ad Hoc Analysis

  • Manage grant reporting and North America tax credit data.
  • Maintain contract records and support contract financials.
  • Conduct ad hoc analyses for strategic R&D initiatives
