As we scale, we’re committed to running a tight, transparent, and forward-looking finance operation—and we’re seeking a Fractional Controller to help us lead it. What You’ll Own This role blends financial operations oversight with thoughtful planning and systems design. You’ll oversee our finance function, own our core accounting workflows, and partner with leadership on everything from monthly closes to long-range compensation strategy—with the support of an admin team member and AI-based tools. Responsibilities Month-End Close & Financial Reporting Lead all monthly close activities in QuickBooks Online (QBO) Reconcile all bank and credit card accounts Prepare monthly P&L, YTD financials, and budget variance commentary Deliver CEO-ready reports and partner on quarterly updates Budgeting, Forecasting & Cash Flow Manage annual budget development (bottom-up + exec alignment) Track monthly actuals vs. budget and investigate key variances Maintain short- and mid-term cash flow tracking and projections Coordinate forecast revisions (3+9, 6+6, 9+3 cycles) Payroll Oversight & Compensation Strategy Complete payroll setup, funding, categorization, and review Ensure accuracy across all compensation & bonus calculations Lead or support the design and implementation of our compensation model, including: Pay bands by role Bonus eligibility criteria and modeling Compensation factor structures Budget impact analysis Work cross-functionally with leadership to operationalize the model and ensure alignment with financial goals Revenue, A/R & Collections Oversight Oversee revenue recognition workflows and reporting Review receivables and collections tracking in coordination with admin support and our collections vendor Initiate collections process with external vendor and monitor collection success rates and resolve issues as needed Vendor Payments, AP, and Finance Systems Own all vendor payment processes and approval flows Review and post payment processing fees, discounts, and refunds Optimize QuickBooks rules and system integrations Proactively identify areas for automation and documentation Who You Are Strategic thinker with strong execution instincts Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-directed Comfortable working asynchronously and leading remote financial ops Adept at balancing big-picture planning with in-the-weeds execution Skilled in collaborating with non-finance colleagues to make finance approachable and actionable Qualifications 3+ years in accounting/finance, with experience as a Controller, Director of Finance, or Strategic Finance Manager Expertise with QuickBooks Online, Excel/Google Sheets, and financial modeling Strong understanding of service-based business models and cash-based accounting Experience designing or implementing compensation plans (or willingness to lead a structured design process) Familiarity with remote-first tools (Google Drive, Loom, HubSpot, ClickUp) Bonus: Experience with Wise, Stripe, PayPal, BambooHR Bonus: CPA or similar credential (not required) Engagement Details Part-time, fractional: estimated 10–20 hours/week Flexibility on hours, with ability to attend 1–2 internal meetings/week Long-term role with potential for expanded scope $2000-$3000 monthly retainer, depending on experience
