YorLinc provide a range of support to students in receipt of DSA (Disabled Students’ Allowance) throughout the UK. We have provided accredited assessments and personalised training to students with specific learning difficulties, mental health problems, sensory impairments and physical disabilities for over 20 years. Due to the expansion of our services, we are looking for experienced Study Skills Tutors.
Specialist one-to-one Study Skills Support assists students to develop skills required for effective study in Higher Education, to enable them to become independent learners. You will support students on a one-to-one basis to overcome barriers to learning that result as an impact of their disability/condition. Support will be tailored to individual student need but may include the following areas: time management and organisation, attention, spelling, grammar, working memory and proofreading strategies.
Specialist Study Skills support is not subject specific however, course materials can be used as a framework for planned support.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants must meet the required qualifications for the role, in the combination of one of the below.
1. Any degree in addition to a teaching qualification and comprehensive training in adult autism.
2. A degree relevant to ASC in addition to a teaching qualification and the National Autistic Society (NAS) Autism and Girls on line course.
3. A Post Graduate Certificate (PGC) in Autism or Asperger’s or Critical Disability Studies focusing on autism in addition to a teaching qualification and the National Autistic Society (NAS) Autism and Girls on line course.
4. Holds a Master of Arts, Master of Education or Doctorate (MA /MEd/PhD) in Education (Autism or Special Educational Needs and Disability or Critical Disability Studies focussing on autism) in addition to a teaching qualification and the National Autistic Society (NAS) Autism and Girls on line course.

Teaching qualifications include:

  • Diploma in teaching in the lifelong learning sector (DTTLS)
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE/PgCert.ED)
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) in Primary Education
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) Post Primary education
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCHE)
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PGCAP)
  • Postgraduate Certificates in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Qualified Teacher Learning & Skills (QTLS)
  • Diploma in Education & Training (DET)
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (PGCTLHE)
  • Associate Membership of the British Dyslexia Association (AMBDA)
  • Associate Membership of the Dyslexia Guild (ADG)
  • PgCert/PgDip/MA Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD)

The required comprehensive training in adult autism includes various pathways such as that available via the National Autistic Society (NAS), or Optimum Student Support. Successful candidates will have experience of supporting students with Autism Spectrum Conditions in Higher Education, knowledge of how ASC impacts learning and an understanding of the strengths that students with ASC can bring to an academic environment.
Additional Information: Working hours will vary dependent on the needs of the students, and the number of the students you will be allocated to support in the role. A mixture of remote and in-person support will be required based on the preference of students. All applicants must be eligible to work in the UK, have internet access and a full driving license. A valid DBS check is also required.

Responsibilities

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To deliver Specialist Study Skills sessions in accordance with DSA and YorLinc guidelines.
  • Plan and implement specialised, tailored support based on students’ individual disability-related issues.
  • Record management and completion of documentation relevant to Specialist Study Skills sessions e.g., time sheets, individual support plans etc.
  • Represent YorLinc in a professional manner and comply with all company policies and procedures.
  • Regular supervision and CPD.
