ABOUT US:

The Concord Market on Campus at MIT is seeking a FOH Supervisor! This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. You’ll supervise a team of front-of-house staff, oversee customer service and product presentation, assist with training, and ensure that our grocery, grab-and-go, café, and prepared food areas run smoothly and efficiently. Responsibilities include assisting with checkout, restocking, maintaining cleanliness, supporting catering logistics, and delivering excellent customer service.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2+ years of experience in food retail, grocery, or café environments (supervisory experience preferred).
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to multitask and stay calm under pressure in a high-volume setting.
  • Familiarity with food safety and sanitation best practices (ServSafe a plus).
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs and stand/walk for extended periods.
  • Available for early mornings, evenings, as needed. Weekend availability a must.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus, clear communication in English a must.
  • Self-starter who takes initiative and enjoys problem-solving.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • In an 8-hour work day: standing/walking 6–8 hours.
  • Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing, and pulling.
  • Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching.
  • Exposure to temperatures: <32 degrees Fahrenheit (freezing), 32–40 degrees Fahrenheit (refrigerators), >90 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Ability to work in a wet and cold environment.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Ability to use tools and equipment, including box cutters and other machinery.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise and support all front-of-house staff including cashiers, café attendants, and prepared foods team members.
  • Work closely to coordinate with catering/BOH kitchen staff.
  • Deliver outstanding customer service by modeling professionalism, product knowledge, and a exhibiting a welcoming attitude.
  • Oversee daily shift operations, including opening/closing procedures, maintain systems, and cleanliness.
  • Monitor product displays, restocking, and merchandising standards throughout the market.
  • Assist with onboarding and ongoing training of FOH team members.
  • Communicate daily updates, sales goals, and customer feedback to team and management.
  • Ensure food safety and sanitation standards are upheld across all retail and prepared food areas.
  • Help manage order flow and customer service during peak hours.
  • Respond to customer inquiries, resolve complaints, and escalate issues as needed.
