Description

Orbital Materials develops advanced materials and chemical processes by bridging the worlds of AI, Mechanical and Chemical engineering. We’re looking for ambitious thinkers and builders; those excited by the challenge of bridging AI and industry, chemistry and computation, discovery and deployment.
Our mission is to usher in an era where new advanced materials are no longer discovered, but are engineered with AI and we’ll use this to build technologies that solve major global technology challenges.
Joining Orbital Materials means working at the intersection of deep tech, applied science, and engineering innovation. We are a truly global organisation with teams in London (UK), San Francisco (CA) & Princeton (NJ), building teams in ML Research and Product Development to Mechanical and Chemical Engineering, offering opportunities for talented individuals who want to shape the future of materials and their applications in high-impact industries.

ROLE OVERVIEW

We are looking for a Frontend Software Engineer to build the next generation of scientist-centred AI tools for accelerating scientific discovery, our understanding of the universe, and solving climate change.
You’ll work closely with our computational and experimental groups to build agentic LLM tools which democratise the usage of Orbital Materials’ SOTA simulation models and work at the fore-front of AI-accelerated scientific research.
This role will be focused on delivering software which integrates frontier AI research into the workflow of scientists. This will involve designing and implementing front-end tools for novel interaction patterns with generative models, LLMs, and scientific visualizations. This role will be foundational in establishing our UI best practices, ensuring we have consistent and exceptional UX across our tools.
You will be working alongside the scientists who use these tools for every aspect of the materials discovery and technology development pipeline, and uniquely placed to guide the development of a new, AI-powered methodology for rapidly scaling crucial technologies for the energy transition.
