PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of a recognized degree or diploma in an IT-related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience.
  • A minimum of six years’ experience in IT support and service delivery, including support of enterprise-class systems, databases, and applications.

Responsibilities

JOB PURPOSE

The Database Administrator is responsible for functions related to technical planning, design, configuration, operation and support of database systems.
As the Tier III support contact, the incumbent’s objective is to assist Senior IT Operations in identifying the root cause of problems and consequently prevent incidents to the Service Desk.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage database systems, including capacity planning, firmware/software updates, system configuration and ongoing maintenance.
  • Provide strategic guidance and technical support to Senior IT Operations in the management and integration of database systems.
  • Maintain comprehensive system documentation, including build procedures, configurations, and recovery processes.
  • Create and update procedures and standards as needed.
  • Recommend and implement adjustments to production systems to maintain and enhance service levels, supporting Senior IT Operations with execution.
  • Schedule and execute system Change Requests.
  • Troubleshoot, resolve, and document Tier III incidents. Provide internal IT support and escalate issues to external service providers when necessary.
  • Perform timely backup and recovery of organizational systems and services in line with recovery objectives, documenting all actions and resolutions.
  • Design, implement, and configure database systems, applying Enterprise Architecture principles and standards to ensure effective and efficient solutions.
  • Maintain and update system documentation to reflect current build, configuration, and recovery details.
  • Coordinate technical activities for projects.
  • Complete assigned project tasks on time and within scope, adhering to established methodologies.
  • Monitor the availability and performance of database systems.
  • Contribute to capacity and availability planning for database systems.
  • Implement recommendations to enhance system performance and availability.
  • Assess system requirements and research new products and technologies.
  • Participate in product evaluations and prepare purchase requisitions.
  • Contribute to the annual budgeting process.
  • Participate in support agreement and license renewal process.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
