Description
The Housekeeping Assistant ensures the facility is maintained in a clean, safe, and comfortable manner. Responsibilities include: Following cleaning schedules, adjusting as necessary for resident-specific needs, to including dusting, mopping, vacuuming, and disinfecting; Coordinating daily housekeeping services with nursing services; Performing routine and terminal isolation procedures according to infection control practices; Cleaning assigned work areas and equipment, properly storing equipment, tools, and supplies; Discarding infectious wast into appropriate containers; Following proper techniquest when mixing chemicals, disinfectants, and solutions used for cleaning; Reporting missing or improperly labeled containers of hazardous chemicals; Following policies governing the use and disposal of personal protective equipment, supplies, and infectious waste; Disposing of refuse in accordance with established sanitation procedures; and, Maintaining a safe environment for all residents and staff. Working Conditions: Works in office area(s) as well as throughout resident areas; subject to frequent interruptions, and hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, and visitors; Works beyond normal working hours when necessary and is subject to call back during emergency conditions (i.e., severe weather, evacuation, post disaster, etc.); Subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the work day, as well as to reactions from dust, disinfectants, and other air contaminants; Subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB, HIV and Hepatitis; and, May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals. Requirements: High school diploma or GED preferred; Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public; Must possess the willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel; Must be able to summarize and relate information. Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday; Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language; Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position; Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met; Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility which include a medical and physical examination; Must be able to relate to and work with persons who exhibit emotional instability, confusion, or at times, hostility; Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 3 feet and be able to carry such weight a minimum distance of 25 feet; using a mechanical device, must regularly be able to push, pull, or move weight in excess of 50 pounds a distance of 300 feet; and, May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
