FULL-STACK DEVELOPER (TEMPORARY 1-3 YEARS)

The English Language Center (ELC) in cross-departmental collaboration with the Center for Language Studies (CLS) at Brigham Young University is seeking a full-time Full-Stack Developer to lead the design, development, and maintenance of websites, applications, and data infrastructure in support of the mission of Brigham Young University, and the specific aims of the ELC in fulfilling President Kimball’s challenge for BYU to become the recognized “language capital of the world.” This individual will also serve as a mentor to student developers and collaborate with various campus partners to ensure alignment with BYU’s technical standards and policies.
This is a highly collaborative role requiring both technical expertise and strong interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on developer who is passionate about education, leadership, and building effective digital systems.
This is a temporary position designed to last 1-3 years depending on funding.

Responsibilities

WHAT YOU’LL DO IN THIS POSITION:

  • Mentor & Supervise Student Developers
  • Provide technical leadership and daily guidance to student developers. Model software development best practices and foster professional growth.
  • Develop & Maintain Web Applications
  • Design, build, and manage front-end and back-end components of internal tools and public-facing websites. Ensure code is clean, secure, and well-documented.
  • Database & Data Pipeline Development
  • Design, build, and maintain relational databases to support application and reporting needs. Create and manage data pipelines to collect, transform, and deliver data from various sources.
  • Data Strategy & Management
  • Help define and implement a data management strategy for the ELC. Ensure data integrity, access control, and compliance with institutional policies.
  • Cross-Departmental Collaboration
  • Work closely with BYU’s Office of Information Technology (OIT) to ensure systems align with university-wide policies and integrate effectively within BYU’s technology ecosystem. Communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and technical teams to translate program needs into practical solutions.
  • Infrastructure & Server Management
  • Oversee deployment and hosting environments (e.g., AWS S3, vSphere). Maintain Linux and Windows servers as needed.
