This is a hands‑on role spanning the full technology stack, working closely with the Product Engineering Lead to build, scale, and mature internally developed platforms. The successful candidate will contribute to the foundations of the next phase of development, enable enterprise integrations, and help deliver new capabilities across the application lifecycle. The team is focused on developing in‑house, AI‑powered applications that support critical business processes within Institutional Retirement. These solutions leverage modern engineering practices, intelligent automation, and integration with core enterprise systems. Initially explored with external support, the capability is now evolving into an internally owned, enterprise‑grade platform backed by a dedicated product engineering team. What you'll be doing: Designing, building, and maintaining high‑quality front‑end and back‑end components across the full product lifecycle, from discovery and design through to production support Developing and evolving secure, scalable APIs and integrations with core enterprise and in‑house actuarial systems, using modern Azure‑based patterns Delivering AI‑enabled product capabilities by contributing to document ingestion, transformation, and evaluation pipelines, with a focus on improving accuracy, reliability, and performance in collaboration with actuaries and domain experts Applying strong engineering discipline through automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, code quality standards, observability, and operational resilience to support business‑critical production services Collaborating closely with the Product Engineering Lead to establish engineering standards, development practices, and technical direction as the product and team scale Partnering with cross‑functional stakeholders across pricing, actuarial, modelling, data, and architecture teams to translate business needs into robust technical solutions Ensuring responsible and compliant product outcomes by designing transparent workflows, outputs, and user journeys that support clear, accurate decision‑making Supporting Consumer Duty accountability through strong governance, controls over automated outputs, and careful consideration of user and business impact Who we're looking for: A hands‑on full‑stack software engineer with strong experience building and supporting modern, product‑led applications in agile/iterative delivery teams. Proven experience designing, building, and operating production services on cloud platforms, with Azure strongly preferred (e.g., App Services/Functions, storage, identity, networking, monitoring). Strong backend expertise in Python, ideally building APIs and services with FastAPI (or equivalent frameworks), including best practices around performance, validation, and dependency management. Strong frontend experience building React applications using TypeScript (or equivalent modern SPA frameworks), with a focus on maintainable component design, state management, and secure authentication patterns. Solid experience with APIs, distributed systems, and enterprise integrations, including secure authentication/authorisation patterns (e.g., OAuth2/OIDC, token flows, role‑based access) in enterprise environments. A practitioner of high‑quality engineering and DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and production support for business‑critical services (with strong attention to observability and operational resilience). Experience owning features or services end‑to‑end, from initial design and development through to live operation, incident support, and ongoing improvement. Comfortable collaborating with non‑technical domain experts (e.g., actuaries, analysts, business stakeholders) to translate complex requirements into robust technical solutions. Demonstrable interest in, or experience with, AI‑enabled applications, ideally involving some of the following: OCR/document intelligence, RAG patterns, vector search, embedding models, LLMs, and evaluation/quality approaches to improve accuracy and reliability. Azure certifications and/or a relevant degree are considered a plus. Whatever your role, we reward performance and behaviour with a package that looks after all the things that are important to you. Here are some of the benefits we offer: The opportunity to participate in our annual, performance -related bonus plan and valuable share schemes Generous pension contribution Life assurance Healthcare Plan (permanent employees only) At least 25 days holiday, plus public holidays, 26 days after 2 years’ service.
