It's changing lives and transforming an industry. People join Halter to do meaningful work. By joining us you’ll be solving challenging problems within a talented team and a culture built for high performance. Our team out-think, out-work and out-care. We’re committed to delivering real change in the world - this isn’t easy, and in truth, we love that it’s hard. We’re backed to deliver on a mission that matters by Tier 1 investors including Bessemer Venture Partners, BOND, DCVC, Blackbird, Promus Ventures, Rocket Lab’s Peter Beck and Icehouse ventures. To find out more, visit our LinkedIn & Instagram. At Halter, we’re not just building the future of farming we’re engineering products that survive years in the most unforgiving environments. This commitment to longevity starts on our production line, where software is the bedrock of quality, integrity, and traceability. We are looking for a High-Impact Full Stack Software Engineer to take definitive ownership of the critical systems that ensure every Halter collar is flawless. This is a rare chance to move beyond generic application development and solve fascinating, hard problems where software touches the physical world from device test automation and real-time data streaming to powerful cloud visualization. If you are a Highly Motivated engineer who thrives on owning complex architecture, formalizing services for massive scale, and seeing your code directly impact the quality of a physical product, then this is your next challenge. About the Role: The Architect of Quality Joining the Production Engineering team, you will be the core software owner responsible for building a smooth, data-rich, and agile production test process that scales globally. Your primary mission is to define and develop our manufacturing backend and associated frontends, solidifying our testing capabilities and formalizing the ownership of critical services to handle increasing security and complexity. This is a deep, full-stack, cross-disciplinary role that demands absolute ownership. You will collaborate directly with our hardware, firmware, and test engineers to integrate, automate, and commission the intelligent systems that truly make the best product. What You'll Own: Factory floor software ownership: Own and continually enhance our Python-based hardware test framework used in production and R&D. This is a critical opportunity to formalize, secure, and expand the services that communicate with embedded devices and factory machinery. Full-Stack Development: Design and implement RESTful APIs to integrate production systems with internal tools and cloud services. Develop data visualisation dashboards (using Grafana, React) that give leadership, quality, and engineering teams real-time insight and end-to-end traceability. Pipelines and Backend Services : Build and enhance robust pipelines that collect, process, and store data, while ensuring data integrity - which enables key engineering and business insights to lift our production processes quality and scale. Hardware Automation: Collaborate closely with hardware and firmware teams to automate end-of-line tests, calibration routines, and performance checks, ensuring code quality directly translates to product quality. Code for the Real World: The work is what it is—you will be equally comfortable writing low-level Python for device communication as you are building polished frontend dashboards for engineers. Active Deployment & Commissioning: Travel approximately 25% to factory sites to carry your projects through to deployment. You will be on the floor debugging test routines, integrating new machine APIs, and commissioning your systems in the real world. What We're Looking For (Your Toolkit) 3+ years as a full-stack software engineer, ideally with proximity to hardware or physical systems. Expertise in Python (especially for automation, testing, or backend services) and proficiency in modern frontend frameworks like React. Experience building and maintaining APIs and familiarity with relational and non-relational databases. Comfort working close to hardware (automating lab equipment, test rigs, device interfaces). Strong problem-solving skills for complex, cross-team systems. Join our team Halter is committed to promoting a diverse and inclusive workplace — a place where we can each be ourselves and do the best work of our lives. Research shows that while men apply to jobs when they meet an average of 60% of the requirements, women and under-represented groups of candidates tend to only apply when they meet every requirement. If you think you have what it takes but don’t necessarily tick every requirement on this job description, please still get in touch and apply to Halter. We’d love to chat to see if you’ll be an epic fit! If this opportunity sounds like you, please apply below by sending through your cover letter explaining why you’re excited about this role and working at Halter, along with your CV, and we’ll be in touch!
