Responsibilities

We currently have an opening in the team for a full time Aquarist/Keeper.

What will you be doing on the daily? Besides having a fish-tastic time? Your duties will include, but not be limited to:

  • Performing various tasks across the aquarium - daily husbandry, management, and welfare of the animal collection
  • Developing, cleaning and maintaining excellent and innovative animal displays that deliver an exceptional visitor experience.
  • Food preparation and feeding of fish, marine and terrestrial animals, ensuring we are providing optimal diet and enrichment.
  • Monitoring the collection for any sign of disease, maintaining exceptional levels of animal care and welfare
  • Managing water quality, testing and adjusting parameters to ensure optimal conditions
  • Operating and maintaining a variety of life support systems.
  • Regular diving in displays
  • Assisting in the development of display lighting, signage and interactive opportunities.

Please note – The role will require regular weekend work, with our peak periods being school and public holiday periods

Essential Criteria:

  • A relevant industry qualification, or demonstrated equivalent experience within an aquarium/aquaculture or zoological environment
  • Experience with Life Support Systems and water quality monitoring and maintenance
  • Excellent observation and record keeping skills
  • Confident with using MS Office
  • Passionate about animal care with sound knowledge of freshwater, salt water and land-based animal husbandry techniques.
  • Dive Master certification or be able to obtain one within 6 months of employment
  • Able to pass an Occupational Diver Medical AS2299
  • Current Australian working rights
  • Ability to bend, stoop, squat, crawn, crouch, kneel, balance, climb heights 4m and carry and lift up to 20kg.
