Description:

Reporting to the Manager of Children’s Services, the Occupational Therapist will work collaboratively with other professionals to provide quality programs and services to children, youth and their families. This position will be based out of Thorold and travel may be required. The duration of this contract is ten (10) months.
The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting assessment and treatment as required for children and youth who have a diagnosis of a Developmental Disability and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The Occupational Therapist will develop and implement direct and indirect intervention plans. In conjunction with other clinicians, the successful candidate will be required to complete assessments, provide treatment and provide subsequent service referrals/recommendations, as appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Current registration with the College of Occupational Therapist of Ontario.
  • Mandatory membership and licensure with professional association (i.e. Ontario Society of Occupational Therapists, Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists.
  • One to three year’s experience as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Knowledge of community resources and experience working in community is an asset.
  • Experience with infants, children and adolescents with ASD, DD and FASD.
  • Experience working within a multi disciplinary team.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • First Aid Training and CPR Certification.
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certified.
  • Professional Communication Skills: professionally represents the company through strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Teamwork: excels at working with others and communicating with a team to provide the most effective support to clients.
  • Problem-Solving: able to navigate challenges and barriers, always looks for potential pitfalls and risks to help mitigate problems ahead of time, and knows when to ask for help.
  • Proactive: anticipates and solves problems and issues before they are brought to your attention
  • Fluent in French is an asset

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments and identify treatment goals/recommendations and number of service hours independently.
  • Present assessment results, clinical recommendations and treatment reports to caregivers and community partners when appropriate.
  • Monitor and evaluate clinical treatment plans and update as necessary.
  • Provide coaching and support to Caregivers, Community Partners, CYS Team Members, and Students.
  • Collaborate with Community Partners and Interdisciplinary Team Members.
  • Facilitate community connections, program registrations and referrals and share resources.
  • Provide Brief Clinical Consultation Services.
  • Provide Resource Consultation Services.
  • Facilitate community connections, program registrations and referrals and share resources.
  • Develop curriculum and resources for individual and group based treatment services and recreational services.
  • Develop resources and program materials.
  • Maintain client records and complete documentation as required.
  • Write Reports, Programs and Service Plans independently.
  • Support children/youth engaging in risk behaviour while remaining calm, neutral, and effectively using non-violent crisis intervention strategies.
  • Provide individual treatment services independently.
  • Review service options with new referrals.
  • Facilitates appropriate internal and community referrals.
  • Coordinate scheduling with Manager, CYS.
  • Develop and facilitate training opportunities for CYS staff, and Community Partners.
  • Facilitate Caregiver and Children and Youth Workshops.
  • Actively participate in administrative team meetings.
  • Collect and analyze data.
  • Actively participate in team meetings and provide suggestions, creative ideas and recommendations for strengthening CYS.
  • Comply with Bethesda policies and procedures relating to health and safety.
  • Responsible for reporting all health and safety concerns immediately following the Internal Responsibility System.
  • Other duties as assigned.
