Job Summary The Department of Surgery is seeking a Fulltime Faculty Orthopaedic Surgeon to coordinate and monitor high quality educational programme; contribute to scholarship; and provide exemplary clinical service in line with the departmental practice plan for the delivery of quality services to patients and their families. The incumbent will admit, consult and undertake diagnosis and treatment of patients admitted under the Orthopaedic section. He/she will be allowed to order tests and radiology and consult with sub-specialists when necessary to ensure quality professional and ethical patient care. Responsibilities • Establish clinical services aligned to areas of interest and specialization and attending to emergency cases as and when required. • Provide orthopaedic liaison inpatient services in the hospital as required, manage patients in the outpatient clinics and provide on call services. • Educate patients with informed consent, wellness prevention and early detection. • Prepare a schedule of regular clinical teaching activity. • Assisting residents in their rotation, implementing and monitoring educational programmes while ensuring programme outcomes are attained. • Assisting in the setting of examinations while ensuring formative assessments of the residents/interns are duly filled. • Promoting and facilitating residents’ and fellows’ research, participating in scholarly activities including educational and clinical research. • Participate in the review and development of appropriate policies and procedures for patients’ healthcare to formulate best practice guidelines. Requirements • Applicants must have a Master of Medicine or its equivalent. • S/he must be registered or eligible for registration with Kenya Medical Practitioners’ & Dentists Council as a specialist. • Applicants must have completed their Fellowship program in Orthopaedic. • Should have teaching and research experience with a minimum of 2 years’ clinical experience. • Should have a minimum academic position as Senior Instructor. • Should possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated ability to lead a multi-disciplinary team.
