ANCC Magnet designated UPMC Passavant is currently hiring a Full-Time Nursing Assistant to support our Night Program in the Orthopedic Unit at the McCandless location. Employees in the Night Program are allotted an additional $2 per hour, on top of the current off-shift differential.

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform duties in line with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
  • Report equipment malfunctions.
  • Establish effective communication and professional relationships.
  • Assist with unit activities (e.g., responding to call lights, passing meal trays, transporting patients).
  • Receive and act on feedback; identify and communicate learning needs.
  • Participate in self-review and improve knowledge, skills, and performance.
  • Communicate clearly with the healthcare team and understand cultural diversity.
  • Support workplace safety and maintain productive relationships.
  • Perform nursing assistant core responsibilities (e.g., ADLs, point of care testing, vital signs, telemetry monitor application, HAC & PSI prevention, urine specimen collection).
  • Provide direct patient care as directed by the RN.
  • Maintain a safe and organized environment.
  • Acquire and distribute supplies and equipment.
  • Deliver patient nourishments and mail; provide diversional activities.
  • Document in medical records and complete clerical functions.
  • Comply with safety policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to patient care and hospital information policies.
  • Respond to emergent situations and provide companionship/supervision as required.
  • Suggest and support departmental changes; assume responsibility for assignments.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of UPMC nursing assistant or EIC training program
  • Knowledge of body mechanics and transfer techniques.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Access to medications is limited to the distribution of the medication to the nurse.
