JOB OVERVIEW

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Full-Time Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) to join our team at Courtright Kiddies Korner. This role is essential in creating a nurturing and stimulating environment for young children, fostering their development through engaging activities and educational programs. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in early childhood education and demonstrate exceptional leadership skills, ensuring that all children receive the highest quality of care and education.

The RECE teacher will provide a professional, positive work environment in correlation with the Teaching Supervisor, Director, Pathways Resource Teachers & Support Facilitators, Board of Directors, Parents, Volunteers and any call in staff. The RECE teacher will work under the supervision of the Director/Teaching Supervisor in conjunction with the Board of Directors.

  • Actively and continuously monitor the activities of the children.
  • Comply with and meet the care giving needs of both general and special needs children and be aware of all children’s Individual Plans (located in prospective files). * Actively document, plan and implement program plans on a daily and weekly basis throughout the year following the centre’s Program Statement.
  • Promote and practice safety and well-being of children and staff.
  • Ensure adequate safety measures are taken daily to provide a safe work environment.
  • Responsible for the general welfare of the centre and its contents.
  • Understand and comply with the behaviour management policies, confidentiality policies, discipline policies, required qualifications and training, job responsibilities and requirements. * Familiar with agenda set forth by the Early Child Care Years Act (2014), County of Lambton Children’s Services, How Does Learning Happen, ELECT and other relevant licencing and programming material.
  • Promote the four foundations of How Does Learning Happen (Expression, Engagement, Belonging and Well-Being). Document and plan activities that support the four foundations and create and display Learning Stories each week.
  • Attend at least one Board Meeting during the school year which will be paid for at the agreed hourly rate (see below). _______________________

Qualifications to be included in Staff File: * Copy of Registration with Ontario College of ECE (including RECE number) * Copy of Vulnerable Person’s Screening Check with PSOD (Kept in separate binder). * Copy of current Infant/Child CPR and Standard First Aid * Food Handler’s Certificate (if applicable) * Copy of Immunization (or Exemption) Records * Completed and signed Behaviour Management Policy form * Signed Oath of Confidentiality Form

Every RECE Teacher employed by Kiddies Korner Coop Nursery School will:

  • Understand, follow, sign off on and comply with Kiddies Korner Policies, Procedures and Practices as set out and governed by the Kiddies Korner Board of Directors and in accordance with the Director, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Community and Social Services.
  • Comply with job description and job requirements.

Rate of Pay, Scheduling and Vacation

  • Staff will commence 5 days of work at Kiddies Korner Courtright promptly according to the work schedule provided by the Supervisor of Courtright (Monday – Friday). Hours are between 7am to 5pm.
  • Staff current rate of pay for the 2025-26 school year is $25.53 with an additional $2.00/hour as per the Wage Enhancement Grant for a total of $27.53/hour.
  • Each school year Kiddies Korner will pay for ONE renewal (ie First Aid, RECE or a renewal of the staff’s choice.).
  • Staff will receive 3 paid Bereavement days for immediate family. Any additional days required will be approved on an individual basis by the Director/President, Board of Directors.
  • Staff will receive 6 paid emergency/family days and 6 unpaid.
  • Daily, staff is entitled to two paid breaks of 15 minutes each which can be taken separately or together. The Supervisor will advise of an appropriate break schedule.
  • Lunch will be provided for all teachers each day and may be eaten with the children or during break time.
  • Staff will provide ample time to plan for her absences OR will telephone the Supervisor before 7 am on a day that she will be absent due to illness.
  • Staff will participate in one paid Professional Development Day each year (October). All childcare centres will be closed for the day each year as RECE’s and childcare staff attend an in-person Professional Development.
  • In the event of an unscheduled school closure (inclement weather) staff will be paid for that day if they were scheduled to work. If the school remains open, and inclement weather affects driving conditions, staff are to notify supervisor before 7am, and together they will work on an updated schedule for that day for that staff member to arrive safely.
  • On rare occasion, when a Kiddies Korner location cannot cover ratios and a traditional call-in staff member is unavailable, staff may be asked to fill in at another centre. Your supervisor will approve and schedule this. PLANNING (using the CCEYA and Emergent Curriculum as a guideline): All planning will be approved by the Courtright Supervisor.
  • The RECE teacher will plan and provide weekly teacher-lead craft and group time based on their observations of the children’s interests and inquiries and in conjunction with Emergent Curriculum.
  • Set up 6-8 activity centres daily. (May include gross and fine motor, science, math, literacy, sensory, painting and free craft, dramatic play (dress up & kitchen).
  • All teachers will assist in keeping our classroom clean and disinfected. (Deep cleaning will be provided by a cleaning service.)
  • Plan and decorate main classroom and hallway with children’s creations and learning stories.
  • Children’s snack times will be provided on request of the children each session (morning and afternoon). Staff must follow the Peanut Free and Healthy Eating policies (including children with food allergies and special considerations (gluten and dairy free diets). Ensure that water is available at all times during each day for the children.
  • Participate actively in daily and weekly set up of the classroom. Health and Safety
  • Supervise children at all times (children are NEVER to be left alone under ANY circumstance.) Ensure that the 8:1 ratio is enforced at all times. A reduced ratio is in effect ½ hour after school begins and ½ hour prior to dismissal where the ratio will be 12:1.
  • Maintain a healthy, appropriately-dressed appearance (fragrance-free). * Ensure the safety and well-being of all children, staff, volunteers and parents at all times.
  • Actively monitor and promote safety policies and procedures. Actively lead Fire Drills once per month and record on posted sheet in classroom in the Supervisor’s absence.
  • Maintain a positive attitude at all times.
  • Report any accidents, injury, abuse/neglect, behaviour/developmental problems to the Teaching Supervisor immediately.
  • Administer minor First Aid, provide and fill out an Accident report for parents to sign and give parents a copy. Original copies to be filed in each child’s file and documented in the Daily Log.
  • Report any SERIOUS OCCURRENCE immediately to the Supervisor for admission to the Licencing Site.
  • Follow proper hand washing, sanitary procedures, disinfecting throughout the day.
  • Prepare and abide by indoor play guidelines.
  • Clean a safe pathway free of ice/snow and debris for safe arrival and departure. (All staff are responsible)
  • Promote proper seasonal clothing by setting an example for the children.
  • Record, report and contact parents in the event of sickness under the guidelines of the sick child policy.
  • Ensure that children participate in outdoor activities (front play area or walking) and that proper weather appropriate dress is enforced for each child.
  • Complete the Playground Safety Chart and record the time on the sheet posted in the classroom in Supervisor’s absence. Additional Responsibilities:
  • All teachers will assist in additional weekly responsibilities such as taking out garbage and recycling, classroom laundry and, when supervisor is absent, completing the water flushing procedure when Supervisor is absent.
  • All teachers will assist in maintaining a daily message log in the log book of any information pertaining to the centre. (i.e. telephone messages, absences, etc)
  • Positively interact with the Pathways Resource Teacher, Support Facilitator, parents and all other staff.
  • Assist call in staff with all proper information about policies, procedures, confidentiality and important tasks during each session.
  • Assist in yearly Ages and Stages Questionnaires as directed by the Supervisor at the beginning (5 – 6 weeks after start of year) and 6 weeks before the end of each 10 month school year.
  • Positively undertake a Job Performance Evaluation with the Supervisor at 3 months, 6 months and 1 year stages of employment.
  • Understand, comply and sign and date Job Description, Oath of Confidentiality, Dismissal Forms and Behaviour Management Forms.
  • Handle new and unexpected situations in a calm, positive and effective manner. Talk to children at their height level and language ability.
  • Complete 10 hours from September to June of professional and educational upgrades to be documented on the tracking sheet provided.
