POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience/knowledge of heat treatment would be ideal but not required.
  • Able to interpret Work Instructions, use simple maths and have experience of using hand-held measuring equipment.
  • Basic computer skills for data entry purposes.
  • Possess a current counter-balance fork lift truck license.
  • Strong working knowledge of Health and Safety.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.
Responsibilities

GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Furnace Operators are responsible for running and overseeing the operation of the strand annealing furnaces. Operators work in teams of two and are responsible for all aspects of the heat treatment operation. This includes the following tasks - loading of base wire, removal of heat treated wire, carrying out quality and process checks, following the furnace program, organization of wire stock areas and carrying out process maintenance tasks.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Set-up and operate the furnaces at the correct running conditions: temperature, running speed, gas flow etc.
  • Carry out process checks on the cleaning and coating baths before and after the furnace to ensure the baths are running at the specified operating conditions: level, temperature, strength etc.
  • Follow the weekly furnace production plan and update on daily basis.
  • Continually monitor and assess the quality of the wire being produced to ensure it meets the required quality specifications - surface finish, presentation, mechanical properties.
  • Remove annealed product from the furnace, weigh, identify and carry out the required quality checks.
  • Follow safe work procedures specifically working with hot wire, furnaces, cleaning baths, coating tanks and rotating machinery.
  • Maintain a clean, organised and efficient work area.
  • Other duties as assigned.
