SUMMARY:

We are seeking a dynamic and results-oriented Furniture Department Manager to oversee operations across multiple stores. The ideal candidate will be responsible for driving sales, ensuring excellent customer service, and managing department staff. You will play a critical role in maintaining inventory, ensuring product displays are engaging, and achieving financial goals across your designated stores.
Working with the Company President, Merchandising Manager, and Store Managers, the Furniture Division Manager will develop business strategies and seasonal plans to maximize the development of the brand, sales and profits for the Furniture and Area Rug divisions. You will identify opportunities and recommend new product or concepts for the divisions.
The Furniture Division Manager would be responsible for assisting in various merchandising activities that will maximize profit and sales and drive our design expertise to the market. The Furniture Division Manager will work closely with the Flooring/Interior design division in coordinating all product categories at the store level.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Sales Management:

Drive sales targets by developing and implementing sales strategies, tracking performance, and motivating staff to meet or exceed goals.

Conduct orientations, train, coach, and develop Sales Associates in sales and product knowledge for all furniture, accessories and area rugs.

  • Sourcing and Purchasing:

Identify and select furniture suppliers, negotiate prices, and place purchase orders, ensuring the right products are available to meet customer demand.

  • Inventory Management:

Manage inventory levels, monitor stock performance, and reorder when needed to optimize sales and profitability.

  • Trend Analysis:

Stay informed about current furniture trends, materials, and manufacturing processes to ensure product selection aligns with market demand.

  • Vendor Relationships:

Develop and maintain strong relationships with vendors, negotiating for favorable terms, freight allowances, and bulk discounts.

  • Profitability:

Analyze sales data, identify opportunities to improve profitability, and develop strategies to increase sales and margin.

  • Market Research:

Conduct market research with each location team to identify trends, competitive offerings, and customer preferences to make inform buying decisions.

  • Negotiation:

Negotiate with suppliers on pricing, quality, delivery, and terms to secure the best deals for the company.

  • Communication:

Communicate effectively with internal teams, including company president, corporates purchasing team, store managers and retail sales associates to ensure a cohesive product selection, content and knowledge.

  • Documentation:

Maintain accurate records of purchase orders, buying plans, and vendor performance.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

  • Strong analytical skills: Analyze sales data, market trends, and vendor performance to make informed decisions.
  • Excellent negotiation skills: Negotiate with suppliers to secure favorable terms and pricing.
  • Strong communication skills: Communicate effectively with internal teams and external vendors.
  • Knowledge of furniture industry: A deep understanding of furniture styles, trends, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Attention to detail: Maintain accurate records and ensure the quality of products.
  • Proficiency in relevant software: Familiarity with inventory management software and design tools.

REQUIREMENTS

· Proven experience (5+ years) in retail furniture sale, management and purchasing
· Proficiency in retail software and point-of-sale (POS) systems.
· Ability to travel frequently between stores as needed.
