Description DEPARTMENT: COMMON GROUNDS POSITION TITLE: GAINANS COMMONS BARISTA & RECEPTION RESPONSIBLE TO: COMMON GROUNDS COORDINATOR EXPOSURE LEVEL: III GRADE: 12 EXEMPTION STATUS: NON-EXEMPT _________________________________________________________________________________ SUMMARY: To provide professional, friendly, and quality reception for location. Prepare and service food items, specialty coffee and other beverages with exceptional customer service to the residents, staff, students, and guests at St. Johns United’s Gainans Commons location. Works under the direct supervision of the Common Grounds Coordinator. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION: Act as greeter/reception to visitors coming into building, provide way-finding direction, answer/transfer calls, and participate in events. Greets guests and customers, take orders, mixes and serves hot and cold beverages such as coffee, espresso drinks, blended coffees or teas while making sure lobby, patio and surrounding areas are well kept. Works to maintain exceptional customer relations and timely delivery of all orders. Work directly with student volunteers in teaching proper food and beverage safety and sales practices, including inventory management, ordering, food preparation, and storage. Uses Point of Sale system for cash and credit sales on food and drink items sold, and print necessary sales reports. Prepares and stores food as per requirements of Serve Safe™ course. Able to be social with excellent customer service skills with all customers. Able to encourage, entice, and/or sell available items to customers. Assist CG Coordinator in inventory, menu/drink creation. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION: Kitchen sanitation and safety Maintains clean work areas, utensils, and equipment. Practices appropriate sanitation and safety techniques in accord with Serv Safe. Obtains Serv Safe Certification. Practices appropriate knife and equipment safety at all times. Performs daily and weekly cleaning duties as assigned. Labels all foods appropriately. Protects equipment, utensils, food, and other items of inventory from contamination, spoilage, and pilferage. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION: Safety Obeys safety rules of St. John’s United. Identifies, reports, and/or corrects obvious safety hazards. Attends mandatory safety in-services Utilizes proper body mechanics when stocking supplies or carrying items. Complies with all certification and training requirements Performs other duties as assigned Follows policy and procedure with time clock Requirements REQUIREMENTS: Minimum Requirements: 18+ years old, no previous work experience required. Knowledge of dining service, coffee shop or other related food service would be beneficial. High degree of customer service, people/communication skills, and an understanding of health/sanitation regulations would be beneficial. Knowledge, skills, and abilities required: Ability to safely operate and maintain kitchen equipment (i.e. dish washing machine, cleaning equipment, etc.) Ability to understand written and verbal communication. Ability to communicate and interact effectively in a professional manner. Ability to work under time deadlines, manage time efficiently and work effectively with a variety of staff members, patients, and related personnel Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects. Skill in organization, coordinating, and time management. Ability to understand and follow safety policies and procedures. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires moderate physical work more than 70% of the time, including lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally, standing, carrying, lifting, walking, and bending for prolonged periods of time. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work involves some exposure to extreme temperatures, dirt, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. Responsibilities
The barista and reception role involves greeting visitors, preparing and serving food and beverages, and maintaining customer relations. The position also includes teaching food safety practices to student volunteers and assisting with inventory and menu creation.
