DESCRIPTION

Galileo System Verification and Operations Engineer in the Galileo Qualification Unit, Galileo Programme Office, Galileo and EGNOS Programme Department, Directorate of Navigation.
Galileo System Verification and Operations Engineers play a key role in system verification and operations engineering for the Galileo navigation system, with a particular focus on system-level operations, integration and verification, including security aspects. This role will involve ensuring end-to-end verification and implementation of system and security requirements.
You will report to the Head of the Galileo System AIV Unit and will coordinate activities with industrial consortiums, other ESA teams and external stakeholders.

EDUCATION

A master’s degree or equivalent qualification in physics, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering or a related field is required.

Responsibilities

Your tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • verification engineering:
  • Define and oversee the creation of the requirement verification matrix (RVM) for system requirements, ensuring a comprehensive and structured approach;
  • Develop and coordinate the system integration and verification plan, including the planning and execution of system test campaigns both on the ground and in flight. These campaigns encompass interface testing, functional validation, performance assessment, system compatibility verification, in-orbit testing and in-orbit validation as required;
  • Lead the planning and execution of test campaigns in accordance with the system integration and verification plan. This includes developing detailed test plans, defining test cases, preparing test procedures and compiling comprehensive test reports to ensure thorough verification and validation;
  • Monitor and follow up on system non-conformance reports (NCRs) arising from test activities, ensuring proper resolution and documentation;
  • Ensure the precise implementation and documentation of verification information in system verification control documents (VCDs) and other relevant inputs required for the system delta qualification review (SDQR);
  • Support innovation and propose improvements in system verification methods and technologies.

The above elements include unclassified components as well as PRS Navigation and Open Service-A authentication components.

  • operations and security engineering:
  • Define, analyse and consolidate operational requirements for system and segments, including classified and unclassified aspects;
  • Lead the technical end-to-end consistency of security operations requirements at the system level;
  • Lead the definition and consolidation of the mission operations concepts, including inputs to operational validation, integrated logistics support and training processes.

The above elements include unclassified components as well as PRS Navigation and OS-A authentication components.

  • project and stakeholder management:
  • Interact with the service provider to define operational needs and requirements;
  • Support Galileo system design reviews (PDR, CDR) and qualification reviews (QR) for operations and AIV engineering, as well as segment-level reviews;
  • Support Galileo engineering boards with the European Commission, EUSPA and other governance bodies in system security and operations;
  • Coordinate with the Product Assurance Office to ensure proper resolution and documentation.
