Description
Gallery Construction Technician (Regular, Full-Time) Exhibition Design & Production Reporting to the Head of Gallery Construction, the Gallery Construction Technician will utilize their extensive knowledge from onsite experience to perform a number of general skilled support tasks and maintenance related work as assigned to ensure that all museum projects are completed on deadline and to a top tier standard of quality.   Responsibilities:  * Maintains, alters, repairs, installs and removes gallery display casework and furniture.  * Operates wood working tools and machinery as needed.  * Assures that tools and equipment are properly cared for.  * Installs and removes display casework and furniture.  * Maintains gallery wall and casework paint surfaces * Mills, alters, repairs and installs associated plastic, metal and wood trim items.  * Prepare simple sketches, prepare material lists, and lay out work at the job site.  * Operates and maintains woodworking and material handling machinery.  * Maintains inventory of materials, supplies and equipment.  * Maintains required records.  * Communicate clearly and effectively.  * Assist in training and supervision of others (vendors) as assigned.  * Properly use, maintain, care for tools, equipment, vehicles, and work areas.  * Perform all tasks in a safe manner including adherence to LACMA’s Safety Program.  * Duties, responsibilities and activities may change or new ones may be assigned at any time. Benefits: * The expected hourly rate for this Los Angeles, CA based position is $23.00 - $25.00 subject to change, and the position is eligible for LACMA’s comprehensive benefits package, including pension plan. * LACMA is committed to providing its employees with valuable and competitive benefits as a core part of a strong overall employee experience.   Qualifications:  * High School Diploma or equivalent preferred. * Minimum 3 years of experience. * Knowledge of the following: uses and purposes of general maintenance tools and equipment, safe work practice and basic first aid.  * Comfortable working with basic Google Workspace applications. * Ability to perform skilled maintenance and repair work in the area of work assigned. * Knowledge of use of hand tools, mechanical equipment, power tools and equipment.  * Ability to read and interpret maps, diagrams and fabrication drawings, operate a variety of vehicular and stationary mechanical equipment.  * Effective Communication skills (clear and concisely) both written and spoken.  * Collaborative minded individual, able to work well in a team environment. * Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
