JOB DESCRIPTION – ART GALLERY DIRECTOR

Part-time or Full-time position dependent on the right candidate.
In person position, West End Toronto.
25 hrs. a week minimum.
One-year contract, Maternity Leave coverage.

ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION

Alison Milne Co. is a boutique design firm and contemporary gallery located in the west end of the city. The gallery specializes in fine art across various mediums, representing both emerging and mid-career local and international artists.

POSITION: GALLERY DIRECTOR

Alison Milne Co. is seeking a Gallery Director to lead and support the operations of the gallery across several key areas:

  1. Arts Administration & Social Media
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the gallery, including website and catalogue updates.
  • Write exhibition catalogues, press releases, and newsletters.
  • Coordinate and manage email campaigns.
  • Prepare art fair and grant applications.
  • Edit artist contracts and statements.
  • Maintain and grow social media presence, working closely with the design team on strategy and execution.
  1. Sales, Artist & Client Relations
  • Respond to artwork inquiries and build client proposals.
  • Host client viewings; in-person art trials, and studio visits.
  • Coordinate framing, crating + shipping quotes.
  • Communicate with existing and prospective artists.
  • Develop new client relationships + nourish existing ones.
  1. Studio Coordination & Office Management
  • Support the overall organization of the studio.
  • Be a team player - collaborate with the design team to manage deliveries and ensure clear communication with the team.
  • Plan, promote, and facilitate opening receptions and client events.
  1. Artwork Handling
  • Maintain and organize artwork inventory.
  • Receive new artwork and coordinate framing, packing, and shipping.
  • Assist with exhibition installations, client installations and in person trials.

Education & Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in gallery coordination or related fields such as arts administration, public relations, social media/marketing, luxury sales, or business management.
  • Degree or diploma in Visual Art, Art History, Arts Administration, Public Relations, Business, Ecom., Communications or a related field (preferred).
  • Proficient in Mac OS, Adobe Creative Suite, Squarespace, and Google workspace.
  • Experience with art handling is considered an asset.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Strong interest in fine art and design.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Self-starter who works well independently.
  • Comfortable learning new systems, multitasking, and being hands-on.
  • Thrives in dynamic, fast-paced environments.
