Responsibilities

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

In this key supervisory role, you’ll coordinate the daily operations of a small gardening team, ensuring our university grounds remain safe, tidy, and inviting throughout the year. You’ll work across all campuses to deliver high-quality landscaping, maintenance, and seasonal projects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and supervise the daily work programme of the gardening team.
  • Create and manage staff rotas, adjusting schedules to meet weather and site conditions.
  • Support the Head Gardener in implementing the university’s outdoor space strategy.
  • Undertake hands-on gardening tasks – planting, pruning, litter picking, and debris removal.
  • Plan and schedule seasonal work, allocating resources as needed.
  • Respond to weather-related damage and urgent grounds issues.
  • Operate a range of horticultural equipment, including ride-on mowers and hedge cutters.
  • Use university vehicles for site management and weed/moss spraying.
  • Carry out routine equipment and vehicle safety checks.
  • Support biodiversity and sustainability initiatives in collaboration with our Environmental team.
