Description The Sample Maker is responsible for the sewing and finishing of first prototypes, sales samples, and other sample garments with a high level of accuracy and craftsmanship. This role primarily supports product development and works closely with the Patternmaker to execute garments that reflect intended fit and construction. During periods of reduced development workload, the Sample Maker will support small-batch production runs, ensuring consistent and efficient execution across multiple units. Work closely with patternmakers on 1st prototype samples, sales samples, and other duplications. Accurately interpret patterns, construction details, and design intent with minimal supervision, and seek clarification when needed. Prioritize sample development work in alignment with business needs and timelines. Support small production runs during periods of lower sampling volume for internal and external customers with repeatable consistency and efficiency across multiple units. Proactively provide feedback on construction methods, sequencing, and potential improvements during sample development. Follow established workflow processes and status updates to ensure visibility of work in progress. Keep area clean to avoid damaging product or causing accidents. Assist in maintaining safety and housekeeping standards in work area. Follow company policies and practices as outlined in the Employee Handbook and/or applicable employment agreement. Perform additional duties as assigned. Requirements Minimum of 3-5 years experience sewing samples in the garment industry. Ability to operate the following machines: single and double needle, cover stitch, triple needle cover stitch, overlock machine, cross shoulder tape, four and five spool merrow, mock safety, buttonhole, and iron. Specialized in knit fabrics including/but not limited to: heavy weight and light weight jersey, tri-blends, synthetic interlock, fleece, and poly/cotton fabrics. Woven fabric sewing experience is a plus. Ability to work with all types of products including sportswear, jackets, dresses, pants, tops. Match threads to the correct shade of the garments. Balance speed and quality to meet delivery timelines Familiar with machine operation/care. Advanced pressing and hand sewing skills. Ability to perform basic math. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Communicate workload constraints or delays proactively Exceptional attention to details. Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions. Intermediate understanding of safety requirements. Ability to learn the styles and colors. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: · Professional sewing certification is a plus. Actively supports and complies with Company’s objectives, guidelines and commitment to Quality and Safety, with an emphasis on continual improvement. Must be able to interact effectively and cooperatively with employees at all levels. Must have the ability to complete assignments within the timeframe specified by the Manager. Must be flexible regarding working hours and overtime. Must be able to work overtime on evenings and weekends, with or without advanced notice. Must be able to operate in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
