REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum Grade 12 diploma
  • Gas Technician 2 (G.2) certificate
  • Gas Utility Technician 1 (GUT-1) certificate or ability to acquire within 2 years (GUT-1 qualifies for higher salary range)
  • Class G driver’s license in good standing
  • Minimum 5 years of gas service experience
  • Ability to read and interpret all applicable codes, including CSA Z662 and B149.1, as well as manufacturer’s instructions for gas appliances
  • Physically fit and capable of performing manual labour
  • Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills to provide excellent customer service
  • Must be reliable with good attitude and employment record
  • Available to work on-call and shifts on a rotational basis
  • Reside within 30 minutes of Kitchener Operations Facility for on-call purposes
  • Produce a satisfactory police record check at your own cost as a condition of employment

Responsibilities
  • Install, replace, maintain and inspect gas meter sets including regulators
  • Inspect customer’s gas installations for B149.1 compliance and initiate/relight gas appliances
  • Perform load checks to determine appropriate meter and regulator size
  • Identify and repair gas leaks on meter sets
  • Issue infractions against gas installations that do not comply with B149.1 requirements
  • Respond to emergency calls such as gas odour calls, carbon monoxide (CO) calls, etc.
  • Service and maintain Kitchener Utilities rental water heaters
  • Perform gas appliance checks including diagnosis of electrical circuit problems
  • Read and interpret regulatory requirements and manufacturer’s instructions applicable to gas installations
  • Maintain safe work sites and clean up before leaving
  • Provide excellent customer service while resolving all issues with customers and contractors in respectful and professional manner
  • Maintain legible handwritten/electronic records including daily work logs and installation records.
  • Follow and enforce OHSA regulations
  • Perform assignments in other Utilities functional areas as required, such as large meters and stations group, gas meter shop, etc.
  • Assume on-call, afternoon, and weekend shift work responsibilities on a rotational basis
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
