Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university with 5+ years of experience in power industry, M.S. degree beneficial
  • Familiarity with the typical failure modes of the normal power plant prime movers, generators, materials, systems and plant component items
  • A thorough understanding of plant design, construction, operations, maintenance, testing or analysis in the utility industry, oil & gas industry or marine propulsion is required, with specific expertise in various OEM gas turbines and generators
  • In-depth understanding of gas turbine disassembly/assembly, alignments, balancing, etc. as part of major maintenance activities
  • Working knowledge of gas turbine major components and repair requirements for various OEMs preferred
  • Knowledge of relevant codes and standards such as ASME, ASTM, ANSI, IEEE, ASCE, and OSHA standards and requirements is beneficial
  • Previous field experience as TFA, FE, startup and commissioning tech, etc. of at least 7+ years desired. Experience in geographically diverse regions of North America is desirable
  • Previous experience in manager position of at least 2+ years
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Self-motivated and able to function effectively with minimal supervision
  • Ability to multi-task and effectively manage multiple assignments occasionally under time constraints
  • Exceptional project and process management skills

Position Overview:
Reporting to the Director of Engineering and Special Projects, the Gas Turbine Fleet Engineering Manager will manage fleet wide operations who will work as a member of a dynamic team, in a fast-paced environment, solving challenging engineering problems. The qualified professional will require a combination of strong engineering and communication skills that will facilitate project management and engineering, troubleshooting, testing and condition assessments of equipment, construction supervision and contract management. The position will include reporting to peers and senior management, directing plant management staff. Assignments cover the full range of implementing Long Term Service Agreements, outage management/support, and troubleshooting support as needed for the gas turbine fleet. The individual will report to the Engineering Director and will be required to work closely and collaboratively with colleagues in both the maintenance and production departments. The work will involve supporting any of the Company facilities located in the portfolio.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support day-to-day, mid-term, and long-term operational activities, planned major maintenance outages, forced outages, new projects and programs as required for gas turbine-generator operations as subject matter expert
  • Promote safety by ensuring overall safe equipment condition and operation through enforcement of industry and company standards, policies and procedures
  • Assist in negotiation and administration/management of all long term service agreement programs within the portfolio
  • Some commercial background in this area is preferred including experience negotiating and managing contracts and contract structures
  • Make technical decisions within area of competence with regard to decisions to accept as fit for purpose equipment, materials or components that are not in accordance with the original intent by virtue of wear and tear, defects, faults in manufacture or installation/erection and where such decisions are made, to identify specific operating or maintenance restrictions or remediation that should be put in place in order to maintain an adequate level of risk
  • Work closely with plant personnel at various sites to investigate and conduct root cause analysis of gas turbine-generators and associated auxiliary systems and to identify options for the mitigation or elimination of these deficiencies
  • Coach and/or lead repairs and inspections during routine, forced and/or scheduled outages
  • Project execution including meeting company objectives for safety, quality, budget, and schedule.
  • Maintaining relationships with contractors and vendors and staying abreast of the market and technological industry advancements
  • Support construction and equipment testing and commissioning
  • Represents the Company positively and professionally
