YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP or eligible for FRACP)
  • Fellowship training in paediatric Gastroenterology is essential
  • Demonstrated capacity to work harmoniously and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience in the care of patients with liver transplantation
  • Specialist Medical Registration with AHPRA

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE:

The Department of Gastroenterology and Clinical Nutrition is advertising to recruit a locum junior consultant to cover 2.5 sessions per week as a Consultant Gastroenterologist from 1/12/2025 to 17/7/2026. The Head of Department will negotiate the details of clinical sessions and oncall duties with the successful candidate.
You will provide clinical care to paediatric patients with a full range of gastrointestinal, nutritional and liver conditions, including complex tertiary level gastroenterology such as Liver and Intestinal Transplantation. You will contribute to the provision of inpatient and outpatient services (both on-campus and telehealth) and will be involved in the provision of an on-call service. You will collaborate with other services within and outside the RCH to develop a more patient-centred, standardised and sustainable model of care. You will contribute to existing research in collaboration with the key campus partners of the University of Melbourne and the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute with ample opportunity to initiate new research streams will be a key focus of this role.

YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

  • Clinical management of the full range of gastrointestinal, nutritional and liver conditions, including complex tertiary level gastroenterology such as Liver and Intestinal Transplantation
  • Contributing to the development of models of clinical care for Gastroenterological conditions to enhance the quality of that care whilst maximising efficient use of available resources
  • Effective communication with other healthcare providers and consumers, including but not limited to referring paediatricians, family practitioners, junior and senior medical staff, nursing, paramedical, clerical staff, families and patients
  • Administration and leadership roles in the department.
