Description
AST SpaceMobile is building the first and only global cellular broadband network in space to operate directly with standard, unmodified mobile devices based on our extensive IP and patent portfolio and designed for both commercial and government applications. Our engineers and space scientists are on a mission to eliminate the connectivity gaps faced by today’s five billion mobile subscribers and finally bring broadband to the billions who remain unconnected. Position Overview The Gateway Technical Project Manager (Europe / Africa / Asia) is responsible for driving technical requirements, integration readiness, and product alignment for satellite gateway deployments across multiple global regions. This role ensures engineering specifications, deployment needs, and operational constraints are translated into scalable, commercial‑ready gateway solutions. The Technical Project Manager defines technical requirements, manages configuration packages, validates integration readiness, coordinates engineering inputs, and ensures that documentation, testing, and acceptance criteria align with delivery timelines and commercial‑grade standards. Success in this role requires a strong blend of technical depth, delivery discipline, and cross‑regional execution expertise. Gateway deployments span multiple countries, regulatory environments, suppliers, and engineering domains—requiring the Technical PM to anticipate challenges, synchronize diverse teams, and maintain exceptional delivery precision. The ability to convert complex engineering requirements into structured execution plans, stay clear‑headed under evolving conditions, and ensure every gateway build meets commercial performance expectations is essential. Key Responsibilities Technical Requirements & Product Alignment Define end‑to‑end technical requirements for gateway builds across Europe, Africa, and Asia. Translate deployment constraints, environmental considerations, and operational needs into clear technical specifications. Ensure gateway features and integrations align with commercial‑ready performance and availability standards. Configuration Management & Technical Governance Manage gateway configuration packages, ensuring accuracy, traceability, and version control across deployments. Conduct configuration reviews with engineering teams covering parameters, interfaces, and integration readiness. Maintain technical documents, interface definitions, and configuration artifacts through the deployment lifecycle. Integration Readiness & Testing Oversight Verify integration readiness across hardware, software, backhaul, power, and site‑level requirements. Coordinate lab and field testing activities to validate gateway performance and readiness. Ensure testing frameworks and acceptance criteria meet predefined delivery quality thresholds. Engineering Coordination & Technical Delivery Align engineering inputs across RF, gateway, core, OSS, security, and infrastructure teams. Serve as the technical coordination point between regional delivery teams, global engineering teams, and local site vendors. Track engineering dependencies to ensure gateway readiness aligns with delivery timelines. Documentation, Reporting & Communication Develop and maintain high‑quality HLDs, configuration guides, test plans, integration notes, and acceptance documentation. Provide structured updates to the Gateway Delivery Director on readiness status, risks, blockers, and milestones. Maintain traceability across requirement changes, configuration updates, and technical decisions. Quality Assurance & Acceptance Alignment Validate gateway builds against commercial‑ready criteria, including integration stability, scalability, and operational readiness. Ensure acceptance packages cover configuration completeness, telemetry readiness, performance validation, and site documentation. Drive continuous improvement across gateway deployment processes, technical playbooks, and testing workflows. Deliverables Technical requirements documents (TRDs) and gateway HLDs. Configuration packages, version logs, and change‑impact assessments. Integration readiness reports, test plans, and acceptance documentation. Weekly and monthly readiness summaries for gateway delivery leadership. Documentation packages for operations handoff and go‑live enablement. Qualifications Education Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Network Engineering, or related field. Master’s degree or relevant technical certifications preferred. Experience 6–10 years of experience in technical project management, gateway deployment, telecom integration, or satellite ground infrastructure. Experience managing multi‑region gateway deployments (Europe / Africa / Asia). Strong background in configuration governance, integration sequencing, and readiness validation. Proven ability to coordinate engineering contributions and deliver technical projects at scale. Required Technical Expertise Strong understanding of satellite gateway systems, site infrastructure, RF integration points, and core/gateway interfaces. Hands‑on experience with configuration management, parameter governance, and gateway acceptance workflows. Knowledge of deployment KPIs, gateway test frameworks, and performance validation procedures. Ability to interpret HLDs, site schematics, configuration sets, and integration logs. Professional Skills Excellent technical coordination and project leadership skills. Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and quality across technical deliverables. Effective communication across engineering, operations, partners, and leadership teams. Highly organized, capable of managing parallel deployments across multiple regions. Proactive problem‑solver with strong risk‑identification and mitigation capabilities. Technology Proficiency Project coordination tools: Jira, Asana, MS Project, Smartsheet. Documentation tools: Visio, Lucidchart, Draw.io, Confluence. KPI & telemetry dashboards: Power BI, Grafana, Kibana. Familiarity with OSS/NMS systems and telecom integration toolchains. Physical Requirements Willingness to travel across Europe, Africa, and Asia for gateway readiness reviews, onsite tests, and engineering coordination. Ability to work across multiple time zones and participate in extended technical review sessions. This job description may not be inclusive to the duties and responsibilities listed. Additional tasks may be assigned to the employee from time to time or the scope of the job may change as needed by business demands.
