JOB SUMMARY:

We are seeking a detail oriented and motivated General Accountant to join our accounting team. The ideal candidate will assist with day-to-day accounting operations, support month-end and year-end close processes, and help maintain accurate financial records. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with progressive accounting experience and a can do attitude with strong interpersonal skills to be part of a growing company.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance or a related field required.
  • Working towards or plan to pursue a CPA designation (preferred)
  • 2-5 years of accounting experience in progressives accounting roles or experience.
  • Understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., Xero) SharePoint and Power BI experience will be an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Ability to communicate effectively with internal customers.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Responsibilities
  • Enter invoices into the accounting system, ensuring proper documentation and approvals are in place before payments are issued.
  • Allocate expenses to the appropriate branch or department to support accurate financial reporting.
  • Prepare and process daily deposits, ensuring timely and accurate handling of payments.
  • Manage multiple bank accounts, including monitoring transactions, processing payments, and understanding cash flow for various activities.
  • Create and process electronic payments, including e-transfers, EFTs, and wire transfers.
  • Prepare and reconcile prepaid accounts and other general ledger accounts.
  • Capitalize fixed asset invoices that meet policy thresholds and qualify as assets.
  • Perform monthly reconciliations of designated accounts, including trust or liability accounts.
  • Maintain and update accounts receivable records, prepare reports, and communicate outstanding balances as needed.
  • Process monthly adjuster payments after thorough review of the data.
  • Prepare monthly production, financial, and expense reports for management.
  • Support month-end and year-end closing processes, including reconciliations and journal entries.
  • Assist with commission calculations and payments as required.
  • Perform other accounting duties as assigned by management.
  • Identify process deficiencies and recommend best practices to improve efficiency and financial outcomes.
